i have a stock cooler on my i5 3300 that screws into a backplate on the motherboard.
i bought a i7 3770 that has plastic push pins instead of screws to attach cooler to motherboard and they arent interchangeable .
do you think its possible to take off the plastic pins and use the screws from the other cooler to attach the new cooler?
is the stock i7 3770 cooler any better than the stock i5 cooler?

There s no reason you would need screws over the newer push pin design. The pushpins (while the rotations can be a bit confusing at first) secure extremely tightly and are designed to fully secure and stabilize the heat sink, just as screws do, and they're hassle-free.

I've had them fall apart on my I-7 4770 stock as they are typically an assembly of plastic.

i just thought it would be easier than having to remove the motherboard to remove the backplate that my original cooler screws into just so i can use the push pins . ive also read that the push pins break likedanny2000 said and or work them self loose after awhile.
