Intel vs. AMD

I have just read the article P4 3.2 vs. XP 3200 and I can't help but feel devastated. I am not a true overclocker as I am new to the overclocking scene and my XP 2000A will only overclock to 1.8-1.9 max but I am a great fan of AMD, simply if it's because they are the only competition for Intel (if AMD can be called competition at all). However Intel has flown to the other side of the Galaxy in its Millenium Falcon and where is AMD? AMD is having to crawl after Intel.

Does this mean the end of AMD? Does this mean that we, as overclockers and power-users, are to switch over to Intel to still obtain the highest frame rates? Or is there hope and is there still life in AMD? The market is making me very sad because I am not in the mood of paying hundreds for a processor which is simply overpriced because one firm intends to squeeze our budgets, but would rather spend the money on cooling, more memory, bigger HD and more powerful vid card. But if AMD is lagging that far behind Intel then it's looking like AMD is on a one way ticket to oblivion.

Am I correct in believing that the benchmarks are a prediction of the future and that AMD is doomed? So it comes to the question which is plagueing everybody, which is better: AMD or Intel?

......I think this is the billionth post regarding AMD vs Intel, I'm not making any comments until Prescott and A64 are released.

Screw the both of them for now...heck I found a more interesting story about Tron OS and how it powers 60% of microprocessors, this makes it more popular than Windows !!

Lets hope AMD sticks around. The competition is good for all buyers.

I'm happy to purchase mid range solutions (and thus indirectly support AMD) for home use. I don't have a big need for cpu horsepower. I was astonished at how nice a 300 Celeron was (on a nice mobo) and for most home use I thought it was quite acceptable. Later upgraded to a 1400 Celeron and was ecstatic after I put a nice fast 7200rpm hard drive in. However, looking at both the performance and the present price of the AMD2xxx+ CPU's made my mouth water. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and ran out and bought one. I think the price/performance is pretty incredible in the bottom half of the AMD 2n00+ range. For all my friend that want or consider upgrades right now, I have to tell them that they really have to look at what AMD is offering.

Work is a different matter and no lag is really acceptable if only because of the frustration and the work is both graphic and cpu intensive.

It is probably AMD's inability to break into the business market in a big way that has/is hurting them. I believe someone said they had about a 15% market share and I think that's damm good without having made large inroads into the business market.

Let's hope their market share keeps them in business and is able to fund the necessary research to stay the game or leapfrog Intel.

There is no smell better than fried silicon

Too many AMD vs. Intel post here in THGC.
Hmmm.. This competition will just get better if A64 will beat Intel in there ass.

I made that, $5 per use of the devil face
Just kidding, type devil in the [] and you'll get it.
You know what? I'm gonna be super pissed at AMD and Intel when upgrade time comes at the end of this year and I'm sitting w/ my 6K and looking at benchmarks at a P4 renamed to P5 while an A64 or opteron can't haul its ass to something better than 2.4Ghz and it gets called XP 5000+. I want something new and funky, then I'll spend the cash.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening.

hey i'm made it. I'm glad to pay you $5 but the problem is i live in Philippines.
