IntelBurnTest Linpack error - what should I do?

Hi,

To make sure my new PC is working correctly, I ran IntelBurnTest last night with the 'maximum' setting with 5 'times to run', and it failed with a Linpack error. I don't recall the exact wording of the error. The test did complete all 5 iterations. The strange thing was that the 5 results that IBT produced were all consistent: the numbers all matched. Windows was working fine afterwards. My system is not overclocked.

Prior to this, I had run IBT about 5 times with the same settings and never received an error. Afterwards, I ran MemTest86+ over 8 hours with no errors, and Prime95 Blend overnight with no errors. I then re-ran IBT with the same settings for 10 passes and did not see the same error.

Would you say this one error was a fluke? What should I do to make sure my system is stable?

System is not overclocked:

Core i5 2500K
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler
Corsair AX850 power supply
Asus P8Z68-V PRO
eVGA GTX 460 1 GB
Mushkin 2x4 GB RAM
Intel SSD 320 120 GB HD
Corsair 650D case
Windows 7 x64

I've never tried that program. I've tried prime 95 a few times and gotten a few errors at the default settings (no overclocking). With all the possible causes due to bios settings, etc. I stopped using it. Just run your system for awhile; any real issues will show up eventually.

Is it necessary to run all three tests for 24 hours? I am not overclocking.

The Intel Burn In Test can do it in 8 minutes and is the same one Intel uses to certify their CPUs are good for shipping.

If you get an error in that test, its either your CPU or memory. Check the timings and voltages and make sure everything is set correctly as if they are off, it can cause instability.

Ok, here's a followup. I ran:

- IntelBurnTest on maximum, 20 passes (about 2 hours) - PASS
- OCCT, 1 hour - PASS
- MemTest86+ 8 hours - PASS
- Prime95 (currently 12 hours) - so far PASS

If Prime95 runs for 24 hours and passes, would you say my system is stable?

Thanks!

I apologize for resurrecting an old thread but I'm in the same boat as the OP (before he fixed his issue).

I'm just wondering what did you do to make it pass Intel burn test?

I just bought a new system P8Z77-V Pro + 3770K last week.

I already ran memtest for 24 hours .. all passes passed

I ran prime95 for 24 hours too, all passed.

But when I run Intel Burn Test on maximum, it fails at 5 passes. All though I set it to be 5 passes - its like it failed to on the last test. ** I'm in the office right now, but when I go home, I'll run it at least 20 passes and see if it will fail on the 5th.

All other tests are fine except maximum.

So far I'm using it, it looks good.

Does it mean that if it fails IBT, there is something wrong?

Thanks
