Question Intermittent BSODs at startup, just right after the MOBO logo screen. Multiple errors.

Title.

The bsods are not really intrusive, I'm able to use the pc just fine. The bsods only occur at startup when the mobo logo disappears, happens every 2~3 days or something. My bsod files show various errors. Here are the memory dumps:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Cb7EPDUsezMQZJ1TBMUBf_QndJG2eq3X?usp=sharing

I ran 1 memtest86 test, no errors. I recently got a new PSU and GPU, the status of bsods remain the same as it was before when I still had my old psu and gpu, so those 2 components shouldn't be the problem. I have B450 tomohawk MAX as my mobo, and haven't updated it's BIOS since I built this pc 2 years ago. What are my options?

Try updating bios
Update chipset drivers - https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-socket-am4/b450

What are rest of parts in the PC? The dumps only reveal so much.

I will ask a friend to convert dumps but its probable someone else will look before he does.

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 (didn't overclock it)
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Black Edition
MOBO: Msi B450 Tomohawk max
RAM: DDR4 16gb 3200 Gskill F4-3200C16D-16GVGB (ram is on xmp)
GPU: EVGA FTW3 10gb 3080
PSU: Corsair Rm850x

Drives
Nvme M.2 970 Evo Plus 2tb (OS drive)
2 other ssds and 1 hdd, forgot exact models/names but those drives are only used for games and video recordings.

Update, just booted the pc again, no bsod, but during the windows login this popped up:

If you click anywhere, it doesn't close the pop up. I'd had to to reboot it again via the reset button on pc case; which resulted in no bsod and no popup. I already updated rivatuner and afterburner btw, event viewer showed nothing.

Hi, I ran the dump files through the debugger and got the following information: https://jsfiddle.net/9r72of0h/show This link is for anyone wanting to help. You do not have to view it. It is safe to "run the fiddle" as the page asks.

Comments:
  • The overclocking driver "NTIOLib_X64.sys" was found on your system. (MSI Afterburner or other MSI software)
  • The overclocking driver "RTCore64.sys" was found on your system. (MSI Afterburner)

Possible Motherboard page: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450-TOMAHAWK-MAX
There is a BIOS update available for your system. You are using version 3.6 and the latest stable version is 3.D. We usually recommend avoiding BETA versions such as 3.F1. Wait for additional information before deciding to update or not. Important: Verify that I have linked to the correct motherboard. Updating your BIOS can be risky. Never try it when you might lose power (lightning storms, recent power outages, etc).

This information can be used by others to help you. Someone else will post with more information. Please wait for additional answers. Good luck.

apart from bios and chipset drivers, I would
download Win10 Auto Installation Program (NDIS) from under windows header here = https://www.realtek.com/en/componen...0-1000m-gigabit-ethernet-pci-express-software
try updating synapse

its possible error 3 was caused by GPU drivers.
Try running DDU in safe mode and after restarting in normal mode, either
  1. get drivers from Nvidia; or
  2. Run windows update which will recognise the card and install older Nvidia drivers

Update: Its been 2 days without BSOD or general errors, I'll update again if I have bsod.
I followed what you said, but I feel like the BIOS update was the one that solved it.

I have experienced 3 BSODS over the few days. What I did:

  • I experienced 2 Bsods on windows 10, one was thread exception not handled, and the other was memory corruption. I just then decided to upgrade to windows 11 while also resetting/formatting the C drive
  • I then experienced another bsod on windows 11, same case where it bsods at startup, internal power error this time.

The bsod file, only 1 since I have reset windows and upgraded it to w11:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UaMZ3GfzF-2mI4-Vc4O7X8vdKrUxMB8T?usp=sharing

Should I do another test on memtest86? Because I was planning on getting another pair of ram anyway.. unless the problem lies with the mobo or cpu. Can't be the psu or gpu since I just bought them, unless they are faulty as well.
Bios and all drivers are updated.

its likely a driver, internal power errors are generally drivers.
Updating windows when you have bsod just brings them along for the ride. Clean install could fix but lets look at results before jumping to that step.
I have shown a link of this to Gardenman, he probably would have got a notice anyway.

Do you use hibernate? If its anything like the last Internal Power Error, it was just after waking up. Like you said...

try taking MSI afterburner off, maybe its involved since you had that riva tuner error at startup before.

argh, he is following me...

yep, Hibernate again.

if you not intentionally using hibernate, it could be fast startup.
search for control panel
set it to large icons
open power options
click "Choose what the power button does" from left hand column
if Turn on fast startup is ticked, click Change settings that are currently unavailable
untick Turn on fast startup
save changes
exit screen

Fast startup can trip over drivers not written for it. Its also completely unessential on an ssd.

Oddly I don't see any drivers that are old enough to fall into that category so it could be a buggy driver

See if turning that off makes any difference at startup

Of course, if you intend to use Hibernate... we will have to dig

I am not sure I am looking at the correct dump file.
I am looking at one from 7/27
that shows a crc error attempting to read from a hibernation file.

if this is current then do the following:
download autoruns64 from here: Autoruns for Windows - Windows Sysinternals | Microsoft Docs

find this driver and delete the entry:
NTIOLib_X64.sys Sun Jul 9 18:54:30 2017 (old version)

I would also cleanup and remove these until your system is stable:
NTIOLib_X64.sys Wed Apr 27 00:47:43 2022
RTCore64.sys Thu Jun 18 04:55:42 2020
AMDRyzenMasterDriver.sys Mon Mar 15 04:16:05 2021

then see if you still get a crc error bugcheck during hibernation.

You should really change the memory dump type to kernel so this problem can be debugged. the dump will be a much larger file called memory.dmp

Note: I could not read the bios info or any cpu info in the dump.
make sure your bios has been updated and any firmware related to the cpu, chipset, drives and usb have been updated.

not sure what this driver does:
EneIo64.sys Thu May 7 23:07:19 2020
(game driver:? )

after you fix these issues, then look at the internal power errror but you will need a kernel dump to debug it.

after the overclock drivers are removed I would delete the current hibernation file and make a new one if you really want it.
How to Delete a Hibernation File (3 Easy Steps) - Shred Cube

just to get into a cleaner state before you spend too much time testing/debugging.

you might run crystaldiskinfo.exe to get the firmware versions from your storage device. then check for known bugs and firmware updates.

most likely the problem will go away after you remove the bad overclock drivers.
