Hi everyone. I need to read a few blu-ray discs, only have a internal dvd drive on my laptop but could get a cheap PC blu-ray drive off a friend. Both sata.

Is it possible to connect the PC blu-ray drive via sata cable directly to the internal laptop dvd sata (take out the dvd drive and fiddle a bit to get the cable into where the internal dvd drive was plugged in)?

This is the drive I could get:

I know - best to buy an internal one / sata-USB converter / etc. ......but would this work?

Solution
Possibly. Insure that your laptop uses standard non-proprietary connectors. Most Dell do and I've attached various optical drives to my current M6800, but had to make some custom extensions as the laptop connectors have minimal slack and would not reach anywhere near the outside without having removed the bottom of the laptop case.

If you are not comfortable rebuilding a laptop though, I would consider another approach.
