Hi,

I cannot get one pc on my domain network to connect to
the internet. 'page cannot be displayed, cannot find
server or dns error'. It is set to automatically assign
an IP and DHCP server, which is working as it has the
correct IP, Subnet and Gateway address as the others on
the domain. It can connect to all network resources
including shared files, printers etc. It can ping the
router successfully but cannot ping an external ip or
domain name. It was a pc that had not been used for a
while but has IE version 6.0.2800 cipher strength 128bit.
I have upgraded the WinME to XP successfully and
reinstalled Office XP. I have tried removing and
reinstalling TCP/IP.
I have ran out of thoughts - any help appreciated.
thanks M.

Try using a static IP on the machine, and put the DNS numbers in.

Hi Chris,

I've tried setting the DNS servers to DNS address i know
work and it still won't connect. I don't think it needs
to have a static ip to use static DNS?
should i try installing another browser like Firefox? to
check if its the IE that's corrupt?

thanks Michelle.

I suggested you feed it a static IP because by the error message you're
getting it isn't communicating with the router. Since you added the machine
to your LAN, have you rebooted the router?
