[citation][nom]Ironslice[/nom]@ericburnbyYou are so extremely biased it's not even funny. You fail to mention the hundreds of problems that the iPhone has and point out one problem that the S3 has as if it's proof that the S3 is worse. How about the fact that you can't talk and go on the internet with the iPhone 5? A very simple thing that any, even the worst android devices can do; and the S3 does magnificently. The iPhone 5 also does not have NFC, DLNA, and numerous features such as a MicroSD slot, an LED notification light, smart stay, flash support. See what I mean? The iPhone 5 is not the new God that is going to save you from the apocalypse. It's a phone and it's also not the best one.Meanwhile you are so narrow-minded and blind that you fail to see that the amount of apps on Google Play is catching up to the App Store at a lightning-fast pace, even though iOS is the older operating system. There's a reason the iPhone 5 doesn't sell in the rest of the world, it's an overpriced POS. The only reason it sells in the U.S. is because carriers pay so much to subsidize it for simple minded individuals such as yourself.I could continue, but I'd be wasting my breath on people who refuse to believe iOS has issues or that there are any aspects of Android or the S3, Nexus 4, etc. that are superior (and there are a LOT).[/citation]
I can give you numerous examples of Android devices that don't have the features you cite, especially SD ports. I mean NONE of the Google Nexus branded devices have SD slots in them, a sin in this day and age regardless of the OS on the device.

As for overpriced, you do realize the S3 you defend costs $600 unlocked right? That's not a lot less than the iPhone 5 and the subsidized price is the same.

And Eric is exactly right, the Android market is fragmented. I have never had anything but an Android when it comes to smartphones but I'm sick of waiting months for simple updates because the OEM has to submit 10 different versions before the carrier finally approves it and adds in their bloatware. Let's also not forget that the carriers insist on each OEM put in a custom UI for their phones such as Motoblur for Verizon's Motorola phones. Even though Google owns Motorola now they still have to use Motoblur.

Sorry guys, as a developer I have to agree with ericburnby, it's easier and more pleasureable developing for iOS compared to Android. I find consistency in Apple's iOS APIs and the code just works as expected. Android on the other hand is a bit of a nightmare - we would like to use the newer APIs but the problem is, most Android customers are stuck on 2.2! 🙁

Also developing for 2.2 is a bit of nightmare, it's as though Google didn't care about developers and rushed the OS.

Another thing we consistently find month after month is that we have far greater iOS customers and free users compared to Android - currently twice as many!

Also as a side note, I've noticed TomsH has far far too many android famboys here, and I find it a bit disturbing that you can't accept any Apple-related news - shows your maturity I guess.

[citation][nom]Tomfreak[/nom]the latest phone is about lumia 920. Everybody is talking about, Why do I hear more news about apple here? Why....?[/citation]
Of the 4 tabs on Latest News, there is THREE Apple articles, one of which is negative (that the Aple haters ignore because it doesn't serve their purpose). On these same 4 tabs, there are 2 articles on the Lumia 920. Considering that the 920 does not have nearly 2/3 the sales of the iPhone, I would say that that is fairly close, which makes your comment come from a position of not being able to read properly.

I develop for both Android and iOS and Android is a POS. Only problem is if I point out any problems
with Android on Tom's my post will get down voted not because what I say is wrong but simply because it will be deemed "anti Android" or "pro Apple".

I'm afraid Eric is right! I also develop for both platforms, and as an OS iOS is miles ahead of Android at this point in time. Come on, give us a real programming language and not some web based coffee infused cast off. I'd love to port more of my iOS apps, but Android just isn't up to it. I talk to all the big boys in the games industry, and apart from a select few, there is little or no money to be made developing for Android. I'm lucky if I brake even, whereas I make a good living from iOS (thankfully).

"We have always been shameless about stealing great ideas" , "Good artists copy; great artists steal."

Steve Jobs 1995

“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product.”

“Our lawsuit is saying, ‘Google you f**king ripped off the iPhone, wholesale ripped us off.”

Steve Jobs sometime after iphone was released.

So the question is whether samsung UI designers are also great artists? or not?

if yes, what would apple board say if you were to ask this question to them at their corporate headquarters during a casual monthly meeting?

if no, what would isheep would respond if they were reading 1995 quotes without knowing steve jobs actually said them, by simply replacing the name "Steve Jobs 1995" with "Samsung mobile UI design team 2011"

...And what would Steve Jobs say if he was asked what these quotes actually mean for him before he went thermonuclear on himself?

[citation][nom]kdw75[/nom]When someone starts complaining about not being able to customize the iPhone the first though I have is that they must be unemployed or some kid with a bunch of free time. It's a freakin phone! Do you complain about not being able to customize the dash layout on your car? The iPhone works quickly and easily with minimal learning. That is why I buy them. I use my phone to get stuff done in a hurry. Not play around with it because I am bored.[/citation]
One perspective is that once you customize your Android phone you can get things done even quicker than on an iOS device. I like Widgets that constantly give me the weather at-a-glance, allow me to search, reach a contact, or listen to tunes. Being able to choose and tweak your on-screen keyboard is not a bad thing. I won't lie and say I don't play with my phone when I'm bored...so many cool knobs to turn.

Well let's see, DashCommand $50 @itunes , Torque $5.00 @googleplay, Torque > Dashcommand in usability and customization, I saved $45 for a nice 2 yr contract Android phone! So easy to figure out for a person with little thinking ability. And I don't care about games, or BS apps.

Can you say misleading title? The market share is only for the past 12 weeks (and probably next 4 as well). Zak should join a news company though. He'd fit right in with twisting the news to make it sound completely unlike what it really is.

iPhone 5 outsells the S3 outside the U.S.A. So what's your point now?
Also Developers make way more per app on iOS than Android so it's common sense why apps come out first on iOS and make only be in the App Store. Also, even updates to apps happen first on the App Store versus Google Play.

Within weeks/months the majority of iOS devices are on the newest updates. Can you say this for Android of course not. What 6% of devices are on JB, LOL it's taking 1/2 year to get the S2 onto JB, android fragmentation is a huge problem.

^Many people just assume that because it's an Apple iPhone it's the best. My Mom and stepfather are good examples of this. They're not the type to spend any time customizing their phones. They've heard of the iPhone and, therefore, that's what they want. Apple has a grip on such people...not because they offer a superior product.

It takes a bit logic and actual thought to realize devices like the S3 and Note 2 are actually superior in most ways.

[citation][nom]sacre[/nom]Give it a rest bud, its an easy to use phone that supplies you with applications that assist you. Its fast, responsive and does exactly what you want of it.I've owned an Android phone and yea, lot more customizable, loved it, but the program "lagged" behind. When switching screens or swiping it would at times chop up, lower frame rate. Yet this thing was supposed to have better hardware than the iPhone.I own an iPhone now, and at first it bugged the hell out of me without its "customizability" but now I overlook that. Being in an AMT course at Canadore College (Aircraft Maintenance Technician) I just need a phone that works properly and quickly. The iphone does that. Just because everyone is buying one doesn't make people stupid, they just want a good looking phone that works.I am switching back to the Galaxy when my contracts up - but only because I don't like supporting a company that sues everyone. This phones been good to me, always fast, RARELY crashes, no viruses. But it also pissed me off sometimes, no flash support, can't do jack with it, can't "link" it to more than 1 computer, etc, etc.And Zak, for the love of christ every Ad you have is either APPLE ROCKS or ANDROID SUCKS. Why is Toms allowing a fanboy to spread the news?Boot Zak.[/citation]

You can synch your iPhone to 5 computers, you can authorize 5 machines in iTunes.

These numbers are based on new phone activations (sales) for the months of september through end of november--not actual market share. What a surprise, the iphone 5 came out on september 25th, and had fairly strong sales numbers...

This is not at all actual market share, it's new device activation. Among other things it doesn't account for, it says nothing about customers that had an iOS device already, and upgraded to a new iOS device (which is a very common situation with current iOS customers). This would have zero impact on actual market share.

Every other study that analyzes actual customer market share shows android is very much in the lead.

Only problem is if I point out any problems with Android on Tom's my post will get down voted not because what I say is wrong but simply because it will be deemed "anti Android" or "pro Apple".S3? Oh yeah, that's the phone that's too stupid to play audio in my car through the 1/8" AUX jack while connected to a Bluetooth device at the same time (Google it if you don't believe me - it's a well-known issue). Two popular tasks in a car and the S3 can't even do them at the same time. Meanwhile my iPhone 5 handles this perfectly and can even stream audio to one BT device while also connecting to another BT handsfree device at the same time, and switches between them seamlessly as calls come in.Only good version of Android is JB, but nobody uses it (barely at 6%). ICS is terrible because of how they implemented ASLR (which they fixed in JB). That means the only secure version of Android is JB. Too bad that 94% of users are on an older versions and probably won't get updated. This is also why developers (like myself) flock to iOS at a ratio of 7:3 vs Android. No developer wants to code for the fragmented mess that's Android. If I want to code for the latest features in JB then I have a very small potential market of customers. If I want to hit the largest possible customer base then I have to code for an older API level and miss out on all the latest & greatest features.I could continue, but I'd be wasting my breath on people who refuse to believe Android has issues or that there are any aspects of iOS or the iPhone 5 that are superior (and there are a LOT).And I still find it funny that whiners complain about Apple articles yet they can't resist reading them and even wasting the time to post. I guess it's too damn hard to simply avoid clicking the article in the first place.[/citation]

I don't own any iPhones. Never have. Don't intend to. In fact, I love my S3 to pieces. But your complaints are valid. The S3 does have this problem, at least on CDMA carriers, which makes almost no sense. My friend has a video of the bluetooth/audio jack working just fine on his S3 (and it works stock and modded).

Look here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A37p4fF-h-k

Now, your argument loses some of its strength only because most Android phones don't have this issue (though it's sad that the current world leading Android device would be plagued by such a simple issue, and one that is a SAFETY HAZARD). However, I owned an Eris (piece of junk), Droid X, Fascinate, and Samsung's own Galaxy Nexus - and none of them had the bluetooth/headphone jack issue.

I see where you're coming from as a developer, too. But many users still want to buy their phone and have it be THEIR phone, not buy a phone and have it still be owned by Apple.

You have an iPhone and you want what??
Custom launcher? NO.
Custom keyboard? NO. (and this is one I cannot understand or justify - they should let you change this)
Widgets? NO.

The list goes on.

iPhone is not for people who want to customize their phone.
They have other benefits that Android phones do not benefit from

Such as update support. Years of update support and support on day 1 of a new update release. Even the 3GS got some update features from iOS 6. Apple has almost a 3 years update support. Do not even mentioning rooting an Android phone to void the warranty to put an update. That isn't a viable option for 98% of users.

Apple has by far the best customer service support. Any issues even under contract even, go to an Apple store and get super friendly and quick help, even resolution for cracked screens.

Here's an example, relative got a cracked screen, phoned Samsung all they did was give him a number to someone local. This person wanted to charge 50-100% more than other people to fix the cracked screen. Basically they don't give a shit if you have any issues with your phone. Their customer service is ass.

Walk into an Apple store, they won't give you the second degree, simply try to resolve the problem. Even costs less to replace the phone than going to the cheapest repair guy for a Note or S2.

Also going from an iPhone 3 to iPhone 5, migrating all your pictures, contacts, text messages, etc. two-three clicks in iTunes and done. This has appeal to the average lay person.

My brother and brother-in-law are still looking for their Android OS to support something like iMessage. Free messages, pics, video with any internet connection to another iOS device. This is awesome for travel trips for business and vacations. People with iPhones can easily iMessage, not have to pay ridiculous overseas packages for texting. Whats app is not an embedded OS feature, its a non-starter.

To each to their own, I know extremely knowledgeable IT professionals who know computer programming and architecture inside out and prefer an iPhone. I know completely clueless tech people who prefer Android. Then I know the opposite of those 2 as well.

If the masses wanted super duper control to customize and configure all areas of their computers Linux would be on 90% of home machines not Windows. Most people have zero interest to configure their computing devices. They just want a good price, good feature set and something easy to use.

^You are right. It's easier to provide high quality support for 4 or 5 devices than it is to support the God-only-knows-how-many of Android devices. If you're the type that's more careless and may drop your phone and crack it (because its not Gorilla Glass) then an iPhone may be for you. Android has its quirks. I.e., Cursor positioning is simply not as easy (for me anyways) with Android but that'll get worked out eventually. Makes editing text more of a challenge but I'd not move to a tiny screen for that reason.
