dude the 2312 and the 2412 are the exact same monitor , the only only difference is one is 24 inch and the other is 23 thats all

i say get the 2312 the 1 inch difference isn't much and the 2312 is quite a bit cheaper even though it exactly the same

has a great response time better then some TN Screens, does everything you asked for e.g height adjust swivel supports portrait mode and has great colour accuracy isn't expensive good build quality highly respected brand, 23inchs 1920x1080,

this is one of the best monitor i have every seen for its price worth alot more then advertised,

it rates that monitor 5 stars, which doesn't come easy, it includes build quality, user-friendly,colour accuracy,response time, input lag, forget asus monitors heard to many issues with them there more design then actually good
 
For gaming, I personally would get a 120hz TN display. Viewing angles mean nothing if you sit in the same place, color accuracy isn't noticeable unless sitting next to another one and you are told which is the accurate one, unless needed for graphics art.

With 120hz, you get more fluid gaming and higher response times. After using 120hz, you will notice that 60hz gaming looks very choppy.
 


well thats pretty much what i recommended to get except this is 24 inch instead of 23, no difference in design and quality from what i've seen on the dell page,

by the sounds of it your just paying more

There's the slightly smaller Dell U2312HM which also uses an e-IPS panel. It has been tested to have a 0.6ms input lag time (not to be confused with response time). That mean the time it take for your actions (like in a game) to be reflected on the screen is extremely small even when compared to TN panel monitors.

Otherwise the Dell U2412M is a good choice as well

yes im sure we are well aware what input lag is, the monitor i mention was pretty good in this department as well most monitors these days, have very minimal input lag less than a 1 ms but i suppose there are a few that can get up to like 3-4ms which in terms of input lag not response time is very slow a millisecond is really the difference between you shooting first and the other person killing you in game but i doubt you would have to worry will the dell i recommended i even put up a website that have tested the colour accuracy the response time the manufacturing quality the user-friendliness and have awarded it 5 stars which on there website doesn't come to easy
 
I am going to be coming from the monitor and screen on the Gateway Profile 5 and the Toshiba Satellite P105-S6024, respectively, to a 1200p Dell UltraSharp U2412M. How much of a difference do you think I would see in gaming? I will be playing BF3 (not competitively), DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Skyrim, and Ultimate Battle 22. Thanks.
 
Lots of difference higher resolution means much more real-estate room for more stuff). But it comes with the price of requiring much more GPU power to render games on that many pixels.

From 1280x800(You didn't note the previous res, used as example) your GPU must render 1,024,000 pixels to 2,304,000(1920x1200) pixels is a big change. more than double the processing power required.
 
In terms of good IPS monitors most just recommend what Dell has to offer. Get the U2312HM when it is on sale. I honestly was in no position to wait for a price drop and need something now to use so I am messing around trying to find acceptable TN panel monitors. I really am beginning to hate monitor shopping cuz there are so many models to choose from and they are so similar and then with IPS monitors they have higher response times and they have their ghosting issues and other issues with certain models. IPS isn't the end of bad monitors. There are lemons with every single type of technology. Honestly if I could have found a rare 32" LCD tv that supports 1080p at The Brick last night I would have bought it instead of a monitor. Anyway gl with your search for a new monitor !

if gaming is the priority and you don't want a TN display get the U2312HM. 0.6ms input delay. I'm a hardcore gamer looking for near-CRT like response and after a LOT of research I got the BenQ XL2420T. I wanted HDMI port and 120Hz.

If professional photo editing/multimedia work isn't a priority I would get the XL2420T or another 120Hz display without hesitation. Any reviews and feedback I have read on them are always positive and the line "going back to 60Hz after 120Hz is impossible" gets thrown around a lot.

Thats what convinced me. I'm getting my XL2420T tomorrow I can report back my impressions if you are interested. I play Halo/Guitar Hero/street fighter at a high competitive level and have used CRT screens up until now because I so highly regard low input lag!
 


Just so you aren't disappointed or get the wrong thing, I wanted to let you know that HDMI doesn't support 120hz at 1080p, but I agree with everything else you wrote.
