Is 450W enough for 7700K and GTX 1060?

Hello,

I’m planning to build a new pc next week and need help choosing a PSU. Here’s the list of parts I’m planning to use and the 450W power supply I chose:

i7 7700K – Overclocked, air cooled
GTX 1060 6GB
Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR4 3000MHz
Gigabyte GA-Z270M-D3H motherboard
1 SSD, 2 HDD’s
Corsair CXM 450W 80+ Bronze PSU

GeForce lists 400W as the “Minimum System Power Requirement”, so would this 450W PSU provide enough headroom with no other upgrades planned?

Thanks!

UPDATE:

I've found this PSU, I'm thinking this should more than enough for any single GPU setup:
EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

You'll only draw about 250W-300W when gaming.

I had to guess at overclock though so it could be lower, plus add a little for 32GB memory, fans, HDD etc vs stock.

TOTAL = 122W (base system w/ CPU OC) + 18W (fans/memory/hdd) + 140W (GPU)

= 280W

(You can Google references if you want)

PSU?
My rule-of-thumb is to get a PSU with the proper 6/8-pin PCIe connectors. CPU's have gotten more power friendly so this isn't 100% required (can use adapters) but I'd just do it that way.

The Corsair CX450M has changed its design so not sure if you are getting the old or new model (I think newer has 8-pin or 2x6-pin capability).

Well i would like to know what his pc will be used for. If it major part for gaming, its bad build

There's no current "old" cxm 450watt,the old was the 430watt so i think it's the new he talks about. Which imo as well is good enough for these parts.
I do have to mention that when investing so much in a new build it imo would be wise to invest abit more in a higher quality unit.

Hello Makentox,

This is actually my future-proofed setup. I plan to start off with no GPU for a least a few months and only 16GB of ram. When I do buy a GPU I might buy a 1050 Ti since I don't really game all that much. This setup represents the maximum upgrade to the system.

Ohh alright then, I was just thinking why u need so much pretty expensive ram that cost more than GPU. But i would go with something better than that PSU on the list. Who knows what can happen in the future and u maybe decide to install a high end graphic card + i believe that PSU is same important component as other, pretty much heart of your system that pump electricity through all your hardware.

Hello photonboy,

Thanks for the breakdown on the numbers. I should have mentioned that this system will be for gaming sometimes, but mostly for Photoshop and as a DAW running various programs.

The Corsair CX-M Series 450W PSU is semi-modular and shows an option for either 4+4 or 6+2 pin. Seems adequate to me.

Hello Vic 40,

I agree that the system deserves a decent PSU, but I was convinced that this PSU was not too shabby. Would you recommend a different PSU for not too much more $$?

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm thinking, then, of getting a 80+ gold 550W supply. I will never SLI so I'll only need to power one GPU at most. Do you think that will suffice? Can you recommend a particular PSU?

I've found this PSU, I'm thinking this should be more than enough for any single GPU setup:
EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Solution

I found the 550W for $80, I'm going for that.

Thanks for your help!
