Is 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT good enough?

I'm in the process of buying a new laptop and have found one but one concern is, I'd like to be able to play GTA IV & Sims 3 but am not sure if a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT is a good enough graphics card. Here are the other specs:
It's an HP HDX18T:

PROCESSOR
Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 (2.8GHz/6MB L2 Cache)

MEMORY
4GB DDR2 SDRAM (2x2048MB), Max. 8GB

HARD DRIVE
320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

For GTA IV, doubt it. That game gives even top-end PCs a fit. It might be able to run it with reduced settings at a less-than native resolution, though.

My advice is to leave games designed for consoles to a console.
 
He can play GTAIV, not at full settings though.

GTA4 is less hardware intensive than Crysis, and a 9600GT can play Crysis @ medium-high. A 9600M GT would rank below a desktop 9600GT, but still be able to offer decent performance.

He should be able to at least play GTA4 at medium settings.
 
A 9600M gt would give similar performance to a 9500gt on a desktop which is significantly lower than the 9600gt on the destop.

I have an Acer laptop with a 9600m GT 512 coupled with a Core 2 Duo t6400 and I have no problem playing Crysis or Far Cry 2 albeit at a medium settings (with a few of those set to high). The key factor being that the games LOOK and PLAY great, for a reasonably priced (less than $1000) laptop.

It looks like you got your answer on the previous post, but again GTA IV should run fine.
 
i was wondering, can the HDX 18t work with a Nvidia GeForce® GTX 260M? I know it come with the GT 130M but i havent really found anything yet that tells me i cant just replace that graphics card with a better one
 
Well if i were u i would not buy a HP because they have rubbish GPU and rubbish DDR. you can get an MSI for the same price and better on Laptopsdirect.ie or Laptopsdirect.co.uk. And the answer to your question is no. You would need at least 6 GB ram to use that graphics card with the HP because as i said before the GPU in them is not good enough to support it. Just get a Nvidia Geforce
 
To the best of my knowledge you cannot replace the gpu in any of the HP HDX laptops. If your looking for more gaming power I would suggust looking at some acer and asus builds which come at the same price with a gtx 220. or gtx 260m.

Personally I own the HP hdx with the gt130m. the build quality is much better then the HP's I remembered and the gaming performance surprised me. As I don't use it as my primary gaming machine I am quite happy with it.
 
i have exactly the same laptop aspec as you did, and i have already tried both GTA IV and The Sims 3 in my laptop. its all running smoothly, but it heats a lot. it can handle high graphic settings but i prefer changing the settings to normal though, laptops are not recommended for extreme gaming that what i know.
 
Same Spec, but the display is 1680*945 (18.4'' laptop):

can NVidia 9600M still handle games like Crysis or Sim3 in medium settings?

Yeah Nvidia can handle games like Crysis and Sim3 as well doesn't matter the settings as far as i know.
