Let's say for one brief moment that these rumours are true..

We already have problems with releases like Syndicate, Hitman or even The Division to keep 60+ fps with all gameworks settings turned on. With these numbers what do you expect in future ?

Can't help myself and not to start discussion about this since I paid like 300$ for upgrade from 970 to 980ti and at the moment I'm really happy. But looking at hardware (upcoming) assuming that optimization will go that way aswel I'm really worried.

Those are rumours, but if it's true what's your opinion on that ?

A 980 Ti is not going to pass 144 FPS in any recent AAA titles at 1080p maxed. The best value cards even in the long term, is always the mid range cards, 970/R9 390 currently. By the time you "justify" the cost for a 980 Ti, cheaper and newer and faster cards would already have made you spend less, for basically the same performance.

I just want something for 1080 gaming on one screen with high settings, will a 970 suffice or should i get 980?

lol i play battlefield max settings at 144fps on my asus 144hz monitor with my 2 780ti's. Honestly aslong as it doesnt dip below about 110 fps you never notice any fps drops either. ON another note the 970 is a very powerful card. What they are saying is in their eyes a 980ti isnt needed because a 970 plays most games at 60 fps or better. Now for those of us who want that 100+ fps on ultra setting the flagship cards are very much so needed. It's that simple.

it should. imho, though it's still your responsibility to optimize your graphics settings. hopefully you're not in the category of those who play with 8XAA just for the sake of it even though you can only notice the difference if you stick your face onto your monitor.

i know some people who spends more time benchmarking and looking at his graphics card more than he actually plays a videogame. but from a gamer's perspective and a previous user of a 970, it definitely should.

A game like division which is VERY pretty to look at as you are playing the game plays on high settings on a 970 perfectly. A 980 is a waste of money. If you're going to spend in that area of cost as a 980 it better be the ti and not the non ti version. However sitting behind me is my wifes computer running the EVGA gtx 970 superclocked edition and it really is a fantastic performer and i picked it up for $309 on sale from micro center. If you want the card to last you a little longer the 980ti would be a solid choice but at the $600 range waiting till may when the pascal cards are supposed to hit the shelves would net you some nice savings on the 980ti or good prices on the new pascal cards. So all in all if you want a new gpu right now the 970 is your best bet for 1080p. Otherwise wait till may when pascal cards are rumored to hit shelves (we wont know for sure till nvidia announces it april 3rd-7th).
