Is a 300w psu enough to run this system?

It has a
*core i52400 3.1ghz
*gtx 1050 2gb
*8gb ddr3 ram
*120gb ssd
*500gb hdd
*it also has a DVD drive but I'll probably remove it and I also bought a gtx960 but I'll probably have to get a new psu for that

No, a 300w unit is not suitable for use with a GTX 1050 unless it is an amazing quality unit. And there are very few amazing 300w units in existence.

If your PSU is a generic or off brand model, and is 300w, you are inviting failure and possible damage to your hardware if you use it with that graphics card. If it was a halfway decent 350w unit, then it MIGHT be acceptable. A good quality 320w unit would be the bare minimum you would want to use with that and that would be toeing the line more than I'd want to see.
