Is a apu pointless?

Is buying a apu pointless if i can afford a cpu and a gpu? I want to buy a amd ryzen 3 2200g apu with a gpu, but, i keep seeing comments like, the apu is pointless to buy with a gpu if you can afford a cpu with a gpu. If that is true why.

It's a good setup. I mean it's kind of a waste but it's a lot easier to diagnose issues when on board video is a thing. They're not more expensive.

Well, if you can afford a discrete GPU, they're going to be better integrated.

Depends what GPU. A 1050 isn’t much better and you’ve just sunk money into a part you’ll lose money on.

If you can get a 1060 though there’s no point getting an APU other than troubleshooting. Just halves your PCIE lanes.

My cpu budget is 100 dollars. I just want to know if a amd ryzen 3 2200g apu with a gpu is poinless, if you compare it to a cpu at the same price range with a

Having a "cpu budget" doesn't make any sense. The idea is the build the best PC possible for the money you are budgeting to the system.

The 2200g outperforms better than anything cheaper. And you have to spend a good bit more to beat it.

For $400 you can't afford a gpu up front

You *can* run a Ryzen 2200G with a higher-end GPU. Unlikes the old FM2+ APUs, the 2200G and 2400G are actually quite solid CPUs in their own right. And in the past, those A8s and A10s really charged you quite a bit for the APU part, the similar standalone CPUs usually being much, much less expensive.

The 2200G and 2400G have upended the valuation quite a bit, when it comes to AMD APUs. Personally, in your position, I'd buy a 2200G or stretch for a 2400G and simply buy a higher-end GPU at a later date. You can plug in a GTX 1060 or a RX 580 in there just fine.

You'll want that 2400 build above at lower settings it'll play basically all games okay. Also if u need more it's a lot better cpu than the 2200g (has 8 threads and more cache)
