Is a VID of 1.450 bad for a 4770k?

Recently my CPU has been getting really hot, so I keep HWMonitor open almost all the time. I was looking at HWMonitor and I saw that the VID value for my 4770k is 1.450 V. I was looking around on the forums and I read that it shouldn't be over 1.2ish. What does this number mean, as I don't really know much about it. And is this value bad?

It's the amount of volts going through it. Yes it should be lower and I don't know why it's higher. Maybe to power the GPU cores? If it's hot, try reseating the heatsink, or buying a new, bigger heatsink if you still have the stock one that came with the CPU. Also a new layer of thermal paste would help. If I helped mark this as best answer to help others! 🙂

Go to the BIOS and set the value manually. I am sure it is the automatic OC of your machine that bump the voltage that high. 1.08V is usually the default operating voltage.

I actually had my CPU overclocked by CyberpowerPC, the website I got my computer from. I guess they just put the voltage really high so they don't have to fiddle with it.

You have your answer. I would contact them and ask for a refund for that OC service. 1.45V is dangerous for the Processor. It seems an idiot did the job. What is your Frequency? I would lower voltage to 1.30V and try to find the highest frequency I could get for that voltage.

I've never overclocked before, so I'm not entirely familiar with what all of this stuff is, but as far as I can tell my frequency is 4.29GHz.

I changed it to 1.300, but my idle temps are still around 50.

Can someone please help? My CPU goes to 80c when just playing Minecraft!

Edit: I've lowered my CPU to 3.5 GHz, and lowered my voltage to 1.2 (my pc crashed at 1.1) and I'm still having these high temps. Currently, I have it at 3.9GHz, and the voltage is at 1.200, and my idle temp is still around 50. When I'm in the BIOS with 3.5GHz, my CPU stays at 46c.
