Is AsRock auto overclocking really that easy?

I went into bios and found this option called load optimized oc and it was a profile system of OC's. I chose the 4.2ghz one. I have a i5 4690k. I went into CPU-Z and the core clock it said was 4199mhz so that means I guess it worked. I also looked at the voltage in CPU-Z and it said it was 1.2v. I just want to know if this one click overclock is really that easy and if it really worked.

would the voltage go over 1.2v when under load? it says in the bios that it's auto, or it runs at a lower voltage when idle and raises up the voltage when under load.

ok I do know this OC worked because I just went into Minecraft and tested it, because Minecraft is almost all CPU.

Benchmark before OC @stock 3.5Ghz

Min=153
Max=1047
Average=317

Benchmark after OC @4.2Ghz

Min=223
Max=1628
Average=413

so as you can see I get about a 100 fps boost on the minimum and average, while maximum gets about a 600 fps boost. What do you think? Is this OC effective and could I OC it even more?

ok my temps seem to be safe at highest 50c when gaming. One question, my FPS increased in minecraft but decreased in Battlefield 4.

BF4 @stock 3.5ghz

Min=81
Max=150
Average=100

BF4 @4.2ghz Overclock

Min=79
Max=139
Average=94

Do you know why this is happening?

plus think the default for that cpu is 3.9ghz with turbo enabled and overclocking disables turbo

though havent had that cpu i am still on my old 2600k as cant see the cost/performance of upgrading it yet to be worth it

though i am at 5ghz so it still handles everything i throw at it

shouldnt decrease--but try shutting down all background processes when gaming see if that makes a difference

ok. There was an update for Origin so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Should I overclock to 4.4ghz or 4.5ghz from 4.2ghz? and what is the most FPS boost I should see with a 4.2/4.4/4.5ghz overclock?

its up too you how far you overclock--main thing is keep an eye on cpu temperatures and voltages under load till you are happy

another 300mhz will give some more fps its just you reach a point where the extra fps arent worth the extra voltage/temperatures/fan noise

ok and if I'm at max overclock from the profiles and I want to OC some more because I can, I can just go manual in the bios from there and increase multiplier and voltage right?

yes though dont go crazy with the voltage--by 50c under load i assume you have good cooling

Yes, cryorig h7. Very good cooler. I will increase OC in to 4.4 in the profiles and if that seems stable then I will up it to 4.5ghz. If 4.5ghz seems stable then I will probably run prime95 for a few hours to see if it is stable for sure.

sounds good--just remember prime95 will stress your cpu beyond normal use

some people swear by it but personally i just use my pc for everything i normally do--gaming etc and if it doesnt crash or get too hot then to me thats a stable overclock

yeah exactly. Battlefield 4 is the most CPU intensive game I have and I haven't crashed yet. I can get 45-50c in BF4, while I get around 75c in prime95. thanks for helping me :)

ok just upped the OC to 4.4ghz. My Framerate went up some again in minecraft and performed better in general, but when I play bf4 or something like that, the framerate keeps getting lower each time I up the overclock. Any ideas why this keeps happening?

sorry no--dont play bf4

but normally higher cpu speed means higher fps

try googling for a specific problem with bf4

ok i will. and I really haven't tested any other game besides BF4 yet, but I will do so. And is there a cpu benchmarking program that gives you a score or something? Because I've heard of one i think

ok thanks. I will get it. About BF4 I think you were right because I tested another game and it seems like my FPS improved on that too. Just one question, is it possible for a gpu to bottleneck a cpu? I highly doubt it because I have a r9 290 tri x and im overclocking a i5 4690k, but just a thought.

ok thanks for helping just got my CPU at 4.5Ghz and it seems pretty stable playing games. Temps aren't that much higher but a little bit higher. I'm pretty sure I can see performance gains in my games. Now it's time for the prime95 test. I think you're supposed to keep temps under 80-85c or something like that? idk. my Vcore is set to 1.321v .
