Is Conroe worth it?

Definitly, when you think about it cpus arent going to matter more then they currently are, with physics processing being moved over to the gpu and the hail of DX 10 which also puts less of a strain on the gpu these processors coming out in the future if the software isnt highly multithreaded isnt going to matter, but anyone in the market for upgrading now should go core, its an excellent chip so far and a good choice all around.
 
Future proofing is a buzz word and is like predicting the weather or telling some one their future. It's not accurate.

My system is future resistant, not future proof.

And one more thing:

All these fanboys running around shouting: K8L will beat nehalem!

Here are the facts, fellas:
We don't know the performance of K8L. I hope it will be good just like the rest of you. We will only know the performance when AMD releases the first samples to people like Tom's Hardware.
Likewise we also don't know the performance of Nehalem. We will know when Intel releases the first samples. Again, I hope the performance will be good.
