Hi guys. I am taking a core i7 2600. I am not an overclocker, i suppose it is understood because i am not taking the [k] version.

My question is that do i have to buy a cpu cooler for the cpu or can i use the standard fan along with the cpu. The purpose for this pc is for gaming purposes.

Any advice will be kindly appreciated....

If you are not a hardcore gamer or an overclocking enthusiast, then the stock cpu heatsink and fan that comes with the retail version of an Intel cpu is sufficient.

If you are a casual gamer, then it would be a good idea to install a third party cpu heatsink and fan. It does not have to be the most expensive unit. The best value for the money is the Cooler Master Hyper 212+. If you check for sale prices on the web, you can usually find the Hyper 212+ for about $29.99.

The Hyper 212+ is a tall, tower style cpu heatsink that cools very very well. I have a original 212 installed in my own personal pc. I've recycled it through several upgrades. I also install them in pc's I build for others.

Note - Your pc case needs to be at least 8 inches wide in order to accomodate the heatsink. The same applies to all of the other tall tower style heatsinks.
