Our grandson is asking for a 3D Printer for his birthday (he will be 7). Apparently other kids in his school have them.

We don't know anything about these and saw the FLASHFORGE Adventurer 5M 3D Printer on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/FLASHFORGE-A...id=1739648179&sprefix=3d+,aps,368&sr=8-3&th=1.

It's about $280. Can you let us know if these are good? And can you help with these questions:

1. His family has a Dell Inspiron 24" 5420 All-In-One. Does this work with such a printer?
2. Is there specific software to use with such a printer? Not sure how the image is created to "draw" the picture that will be "printed".
3. How do these hook up to a PC?

Let us know on the above and thank you for your help!

1. Yes.

2. To take a file of the proper construction, a "slicer" is needed to generate the gcode that the printer will recognize. Printers generally come with a default slicer program.
There are LOTS of files available, for free. Predrawn, ready to use.
2 good sources are thingiverse.com and printables.com

3. It varies.

That Flashforge looks to be a competent low priced device.
(I say this, as I'm now on my 6th printer)

Be advised...a 7 year old is going to need a LOT of adult handholding with this.

We’re getting a printer this weekend and are down to deciding between a Bambu A1 Mini or a Tina 2DS (https://a.co/d/1aY3Xjd).

Seems a lot of folks recommend the Bambu and it’s a table moving type. Looks like we could add multiple colors later (ams lite)and can print bigger things?

The Tina seems to have good reviews too and looks like it has a moving head with set table and does smaller stuff.

Which is better in your opinion? Is there a 3rd we’re missing?

Let me know & thanks!

IMO for someone that age with no prior experience with 3d printing, you may want to go with a Bambu Labs A1 or A1 mini.

I say this with being into 3d printing for almost a decade.

No experience with the Tina, lots of experience with (other) Bambu.

The multi color aspect of the Bambu is awesome.

I have zero experience(or knowledge of their existence until now) with Tina.

If I get the Bambu without AMS lite can I still print multi color within the ams lite attachment by changing filaments? Thought may add that ams lite later. And, if we do that, is there a filament color that’s recommended to start with?

You think that Bambu is a good brand?

I personally do not like their constrained ecosystem, but the benefit is an easy to use and troubleshoot device.

Within a few minutes of opening the box you're printing near flawlessly. It's even easier if you use Bambu brand filament as their profiles are darn near perfect.

Do you think the Bambu is tough enough to withstand a 7 year old? Or is a case better?

Yes, you can do it that way.
It is a pain though, getting it to change at exactly the right place.

Just get single color ops down first. Then get fancy...;

Bambu is a top brand. But as said, it is sort of a closed ecosystem.

Filaments? Start with regular PLA. Color does not matter.
And if you get filaments directly from Bambu, they are well matched to the printers.
