i'm so old school i remember when everything was capital letters and there was no lower case. what i like most that everyone else has failed to comment or otherwise note; NO FLIPPEN' WINDOWS AND MENU KEYS !!!!!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
those keys i can do with out. i would not hate them so much if they had been placed better , like perhap on top by the F keys which are rarely used or over by the page up/down home/end keys!

I have to admit I am not a fan of Caps Lock. I like having the uppercase letters where they belong. I hate it when I accidently press Caps Lock when typing fast in a game chat. That being said as stated several times lots of companies need to have this to do business. I don’t understand how a simple all caps can make people bleed out of their eyes and heads explode. Guess some people are just set off a lot easier then I am.

Regardless what I think of a caps lock key, I think a "search" key is as useless as the windows key or the other 15 "special" (including a search key) found on most keyboards already.

Just use programs like "keytweak", if you don't want the capslock key. I already mapped the keybinding "Strg+F" on my capslock key.

I'm surprised they didn't go further and remove alt, ctrl, etc. too. If this is going to be the sort of device (rather than a computer) you could dole out to grandmothers and the computer-illiterate/lazy (who could be a promising untapped demographic to get looking at Google ads - which I assume is one of the Chrome OS projects ultimate objectives) then removing the caps lock key makes perfect sense; there's hardly a reason for using caps in day to day web browsing, and - on occasion where it is - holding the shift key would suffice.

I've seen examples before, where those new to computers have had things made more awkward due to the caps lock key, e.g. accidentally pressing it and not realising, confused as to how to change it back to non-caps, or elderly people deliberately typing in caps all the time, since it's easier for them to read, unaware that it's considered poor etiquette.

What is the problem people?

if someone feels the need to troll on the internet then they can change it back to a caps lock key. other than that the key has very little value.

as for the previously mentioned cad programs: I doubt they will even run on android. That said, you would want more power than this product has as well.

As to the missing start key/other keys: think android not windows for a minute.

c0decx... programs like that are nifty. I remapped f12 to the start key so I can use my ibm m which doesnt come with one :)

I think Google will have to back off from this. I understand that English only people don't need the CapsLk key, but if you are speaking and writing in multiple languages (like Russian) you need this key for quick switch between the keyboard layouts. If I was at Google I would replace the "Windows" key to be the default search key.

Are you sure SAL-e? I'm using Win 7 and the shortcut to switch the keyboard-layout is "Alt+Shift" and not "Alt+Capslock" in my case. Using it often to switch from english to korean layout.

Yes, Default in Windows is "Alt+Shift", but if you are experienced keyboard user, who is using keyboard shortcuts, you will find out very often you switch the layout when you don't need it. Remapping the keyboard layout switch shortcut to "Shift-CapsLk" (or just "CapsLk") works much better (speed mostly). Especially if you are using other OS like Linux where "Alt+Shift" is heavily used in terminal shortcuts.

Google notes that those with the Cr-48 notebook can click on the wrench icon, go into System section inside settings and change the Modifier Key from Search back to Caps Lock.
I have a patent on the wrench icon...I'm suing!

Makes sense for a specific OS, but in general, bad idea. Caps lock is far from useless when commands are case-sensitive. I'd hate to hold down shift constantly for working in Unix....

It will be replaced with a "Send Google all your personal data" key....
Oh wait, they already took care of that with root kit & bloatware that you won't be able to uninstall.

[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]Let's hope that all laptop manufacturers start making trackpads like that.Having more than 1 physical mouse button is pointless on a laptop.[/citation]
That's a pretty retarded thing to say. Not everyone uses their computer solely for accessing tech blogs and facebook; some people do actual work. I miss the 3rd mouse button my last thinkpad laptop had, but luckily I can simply press both of the 2 separate, physical buttons my dell has to function as the center button. Makes use of my CAD software a lot more pleasant than if I were trying to use the dumbed-down consumer trash you're advocating, where I'd constantly be moving up to the tool bar to click some button to change the function of the cursor just to modify views, over and over again.

OH NOOOOOOOOOO!!! but, i did that with the shift key, just like google would want.
