Is gtx 760 a good gaming card. Will it be good for gaming in future (in ultra settings)?? I am planing on buying it. Will it run all new games now and in the comming years?

the number six in the naming indicate it was a mid range card. as for gaming it is quite capable but don't expect to run ultra on upcoming games with it.

Its not a bad card. But not high end. Make sure you dont do something stupid like buy the 4gb thinkin its better. Rather get a 270x. Will last a little longer than a 760. My preference over the 760 anyway. Better value for money. Otherwise get a 280x, nvidia 970.

This reminds me so many futile discussions about hardware being 'future-proof'. There's no such thing. Any piece of hardware will be obsolete sooner or later, and if we're talking about GPUs, we're quite familiar with both AMD and Nvidia's development and release roadmap, so I can guarantee that any given card (either a low, mid or high-end) will be obsolete within a year.

Indeed serge44, no hardware is future-proof but some will last longer than others. This discussion was mostly about finding a graphics card that would last for a couple years. The 760 will not but the 970 has a good chance of surviving for awhile before it becomes obsolete.

I have a GTX 760 and it performs well still. Can't ultra all games coming this year but gets very close in some. One of the big factors is it's a 2GB card and a lot of games are hitting the 2.3gb-3gb mark for vram, so if you have the 4GB it will be a little better. I would recommend to see what Nvidia has planned for the 7xx line because the 9xx line is supposed to repalce the 6xx line, not the 7xx. 970 and 980 are still really solid cards though :)

to be honest i don't know if 970 will last that long...unless you don't mind playing games with lowered detail. so 4 years ago GTX480 is top of the line card....now the same performance can be obtain from GTX750 Ti. and that is an entry level gaming GPU right now. my 660 still faster than 750Ti (SLI support is broken for the game). but even with the lowest possible setting i still have hard time to break 40FPS. mostly in mid thirties actually. in The Evil Within. and that is with 1600x900 resolution.

What a bunch of crap. Any given gpu will last as long as it is physically able to run, eg. till the fans quit or a spike takes out a cap or it overheats and fries the gpu. I had the same radeon x800 for 10 years before the fan froze and I burned up the card. Reason? I was still enjoying the same games I had been enjoying for 10 years.

Future proofing a pc is only a concern to anyone who absolutely must succumb to the hype and play the latest, greatest mind blowing game. There is exactly no reason not to use the same gpu for 3, 4, 5+ years unless you are just not satisfied with what you own.
