As my title says will i be able to play games on ultra/high on 1080p

I am very tight on budget

or should i go for i5 4590 with gtx 750 ti... both will cost same and will be mostly gaming and running some adobe cc...

AMD graphic cards are costlier than nvidia in india...

i5 + gtx 750 ti = Rs.26000

i3 + gtx 960 = RS.24000

on snapdeal.com or flipkart.com

plain as day - if performance as of now is more important to you the i3+gtx 960 will perform better - thats a fact!
Upgrading wise in the future an i3 to an i5 cost about the same as a 750ti to a 960 - so upgrading in the future will cost pretty much the same.
the 960 is a far better card than the 750ti full stop, the i5 doesnt perform a great deal better than the i3 in 99% of games.
a decent 430/450w psu will run either option absolutely fine - if the cx430 is a limited psu option it will do the job absolutely fine - it is not half as bad is its made out to be imo.

The cx series has loads of issues from failing to blowing people components inside their pc. Saying 99% of games are gonna run the exact same on the i3 as the i5 is false. The i3 having only 2 physical cores will limit it. Playing games along will completely max out your CPU with NO power left over for anything else because your CPU is already going to be given more work than it can do. More than a few games utilize multi core CPUs right now especially games like wow (which I'm assuming lol is similar), bf4, cod, Titan, etc. running those games has ALL 4 of my heavily overclocked cores at 99% while gaming and my i5 blows the doors off the i3 in question. I would highly advise against the i3 for any type of gaming. Get an i5 k model so it's unlocked and can easily be overclocked in the future wants it starts to become a lacking cpu. My i5 is rather old but at 4.4-4.5 it's a tad faster than the 4690k Devils canyon at stock. See how that works? Overclocking when a cpu starts to become not enough buys you a few more years.

consider the old i3 & i5 performance difference - which will be incredibly similar to a haswell i3 vs an haswell i5

youre talking between 5&7 fps absolute max

then consider a 750ti vs a 960

the difference is 20fps+,making an i3+960 a far better combo when it comes to outright gaming performance in fc4 & most other titles

thats your opinion, its probably intels biggest seller at the end of the day & many people are using it as a budget gaming cpu.
He asks if its a good gaming combination which it clearly is.
the 750ti is weak plain & simple, the 960 isnt - it makes it a better choice imo.

absolutely disagree, games are becoming me & more demanding full stop.
The gpu is more of a priority than the cpu in most new titles imo - the 750ti just wont cut it full stop nowdays.

both the combinations cost same and later upgrading from gtx 750 ti to gtx 970 will be costlier than to upgrading i3 to i5....

youve pretty much answered your own question then

If games relied more on gpu then why are they so concerned to make current titles and future titles coded for multi core support? I recommended saving up a little more and doing the i5 and 960 not the 750ti. Don't waste money on something that's bately going to get you buy. Save a little bit more and do the i5 and the 960. Do it right or don't do it at all. Otherwise you are just wasting money.

Also like I said if you play online you cpu almost always plays a MUCH bigger role. Just like bf3 and bf4. Cpu is almost more important than gpu if playing online. Assassins creed is another good example. Bottom line with it having already been announced that with directX 12 and what not everything is going to multi threaded support to support 4+cores more efficiently. Buying into a older slower dual core tech is hendering yourself. If the main purpose for the pc is gaming a i3 will not be a good cpu bottom line.

^ I agree with you 100% to be honest.
Just to answer his original question though, out of the 2 combos he listed the i3+960 is the better more balanced option.
There really is no argument in that respect ,a high end CPU with a low end card is just totally unbalanced performance wise & will be a big big disappointment when it comes to gaming due to the limitation of the 750ti.
