Is it a Thorton core?....no one knows

Ok, I have purchased a processor on ebay and want to know if it is really what they advertised. They said this is a Thorton core ATHLON AMD 2400+, but the picture in his add is different. In his add the PCB is green but the one i received is brown. here are the numbers off the processor I received:
AXDA2400DKV3C, AMD
I also tried this in a Soyo dragon kt400 ultra and no post, not sure if that board supports the thorton core.

There were three (3) XP2400+ processors, Tbred B, Thorton, and Mobile Barton. Only the Thorton is super-locked. If you recieve one of the other models then you got a better processor, in my opinion.

Whatever you received it should work in that mobo. Did you clear CMOS?

i have amd's description spec sheet, it is as follows, AXDA according to amd is thoroughbred/barton, 2400 is model,D is package OPGA, K is Voltage, which is 1.65, V is temp limit which is 85C,3 is cache size which is 256, C is FSB which is 266mhz, so you have a thoroughbred 2400+ running at 2000mhz,with 256 cache,1.65 volts,266mhz FSB,package OPGA, with a temp limit of 85C......what did you pay for it?

well i would say you got the better end of the deal, i would think the thoroughbred would be a better cpu than the thorton, i have a 2000+ thorton core and its decent but not as good as the thoroughbred in my opinion...

Sounds to me if the PCB is Brown he got an authentic Barton and it's proly unlocked!!

He got lucky. I bet his cache is the good one also.

see my earlier post, he did not get a barton....i have amd's spec sheet on the stepping codes....he got a t-bred with 256 cache...

Ok just read out the spec's I have on my 2500+ took a minute to find the notebook I had them written down on because I now have that 2500+ running a 20 player game server @ 2.2 GHz So its in the Box as it were!!

Yes you are right he did but you forgot to mention something and that is why I was pissing around with all the numbers!!

I knew there was something special about his CPU and it is this!! It's factory default stock setting is 2.0 GHz

The Barton 2500+ BARTON 512K W/ QUANTISPEED ARCHITECHTURE OPERATING 1.83GHZ STOCK

So I knew even if he had the 256 KB cache there was an up-side to that 2400+ CPU and it is both unlocked and starts at 2.0 GHz.

Even if the Barton 2500+ has a 333MHz FSB and a 512 KB cache the 2400+ has a slight MHz advantage out of the box. To bad the 2400+ was not a 333 MHz front side bus.

His 2400+ will struggle now with some graphics applications as most Graphics cards in the 8X AGP range before last years card releases took full advantage of the higher FSB speeds. So any card he uses in AGP 8X will be slowed down.

yes i do know, it is NOT a thorton. period. it is a t-bred. that is why i posted the meaning of the stepping code you gave.

there is nothing special about that cpu. it is your ordinary run of the mill t-bred 2400XP, they all have those specs...all the t-breds with similar stepping were 2000mhz stock, they cut the mhz at 2500 on the bartons but increased the cache to 512, locked or not is really no big deal, the fsb can be upped with quality ram to go along with it and oc very well. i think he got a better deal then what they were describing...but i dont know YET why it wont post in his soyo board unless it may be a dead cpu...happens on ebay alot, i have gotten my share of DOA cpu's, but luckily, the sellers honored the warranty

your board officially supports up to a 2600+ t-bred cpu,but a BIOS update may be required to support the Thoroughbred CPU. please check the download section of our website for the latest BIOS available for your board. I am presuming you checked soyo for bios updates and all the other things you should have checked as well....like board settings and such,

so my guess would be you got a dead cpu...have another system to try it in? what happens when you try this one? any screen at all, beeps,? fans turn? lights come on? I have a feeling its a dead cpu, who did you buy it from off ebay? there is a feller in oregon that sells alot of doa cpu's hope it wasnt him...i forget his name at the momoment...

The board does support bartons as well. With a tbred, he has a wide selection of available combinations for speed.
If the chip works, he should be able to run at 166/333 fsb, and up to a speed of about 2.1 gigs or so, using the unlocked multiplier. A thorton would give almost the same speed, but with a locked multiplier. Without the pci lock, a thorton oc becomes a little trickyier.
