Is it fine to plug a 3 pin fan into a 4 pin plug?

I have x1 fan that has 3 pins (female) and two 4 pin fan plugins on my P8Z68 ASUS PRO-V/GEN3 mobo. Both are empty, one is labled CPU_FAN_OPT and the other is CHA_FAN1 which means chasis (case) fan. the fan im putting in is the one for the case so... yea. Can I plug this in and will it possibly fry my motherboard/fan?

It won't fry anything! The 4th pin is only for fans with adjustable speed. It will work, but the fan you have will be stuck at maximum speed.

So... I can plug my 3 pin fan into a 4 pin mobo? Sweet! Then another 3 fan into 4 mobo? Yay!
