Is it Possible to get 12 GB ram?

I have an Asus H110M-A motherboard and currently I have 1 stick of 8gb ram ddr4 and I wanted to ask is it possible to buy another stick of 4gb ram ddr4 put it in my motherboard and I'll get 12gb ram?

Mixing RAM is always a crapshoot.

Since you're buying, why not just buy another identical 8GB stick?

sure, purchase a 4gb dimm with same timings etc. for increased stability though, purchase 2 identical dimms(same size, speed, timings etc).

Since you're buying, why not just buy another identical 8GB stick?

of course if i had the money and a good reason to buy another 8gb ram stick i would buy but i think i dont need another 8gb ram stick im just trying to find out will my pc will be normal and the 4gb ram stick ill buy will work normally i have never bought extra pieces to my pc so i dont know about that.

Is it possible? Sure.
Will it work 100%? Only 'probably'.

You'll lose the bit of extra performance of dual channel that you could've gotten when adding another 8gb stick of ram. It could very well be that it won't work since unless a kit of ram is sold togheter there can always be issues.

I realize this is the answer you want, but I need to be clear here, BOTH people who have replied to this thread (and I will add to them) are telling you there is a chance this will not work at all. There is NO guarantee, and a chance it won't work and you will have opened the package and wasted your money if the store doesn't have a good return policy.

In all likelihood, it will run okay. Do make sure you purchase the ram from a vendor with a good return policy just in case. Please don't respond negatively if this doesn't work, as we who have responded have pointed out the chance of it not. 😉
