Today I'm getting a new computer and am wondering if I can swap the hard drive from my old computer into my new computer.
old computer (HP Prodesk 600 g1(yeah, it sucks, I was stupid af when I bought it)):
i5 4570, 8gb DDR3.
new computer:
i7 4770, 16gb DDR3.
both have the same socket type (according to google at least) and same DDR3. the OS is windows 10 pro x64.

Solution
That is a 100% maybe.

Swapping a drive like this has 3 possible outcomes:
  1. It boots up just fine.
  2. It fails completely.
  3. It boots up, but your chasing issues for weeks.

Being the same level CPU and motherboard, it might work.
But be prepared for if it fails.

Also:
For the OS activation, read and do this before you change any parts:

btw my new computer comes with windows 8.1 pro. also my old computer has a gt 1030 installed, i figured this probably isn't an issue but i wanted to double check.

Moving an HP OEM Windows installation to a new rig is not really kosher per OEM OS licensing terms....(technically, the OS license is tied to that rig, and dies with it)

However, If you merely prefer Win10 Pro over Win8 Pro on the new system (who wouldn't!), simply do the free upgrade/update from MS, which still works, by the way....
