Is it safe to use HDMI if DVI port is broken

Hey,

I have a broken DVI port (there is a little crack around wholes in DVI, I think someone tried to connect it with wrong DVI), but HDMI works fine (tested it with TV and another monitor).
So, my question is - Is it safe to use HDMI while DVI port is broken/cracked ?
