Maybe. Depends on the units. I have a Corsair SFX600w Platinum. Fully modular cables. The cables are individually sleeved and seperate, so working with them in a really, really tiny pc was far, far easier than the SFX600w Gold, which uses non-sleeved rubberized ribbon cables, which don't like to bend around corners sideways or deal with twists very well.
That's besides the point that the Platinum is somewhat better efficiency at any load rating, so there's less heat created by power conversion loss. Less heat inside the psu means that for the same load, the fan spins slower and quieter.
Higher efficiency means the psu might eventually pay up the difference in price over a gold unit, so be worth the value still when it's nearing EOW.
To get that Plat rating the efficiency must be somewhat higher than Gold psus, in order to get that the Plats tend to built with slightly better components with tighter tolerances. That generally means better and more stable outputs, which is important for OC or higher boosts or high draw gpus like top end 30 series.
For me, the $15 difference in price between the Gold and Platinum versions was a no-brainer, even if the SFX psus are equitable to the RMx and HX atx Corsair.
But guaranteed I'd take a Gold Corsair RMx over a Platinum rated Aerocool any day of the week, regardless of price, so really depends on Which units are in question.
