Question Is it worth upgrading my memory (32gb-cl16-3600mhz) for the 5800x3d? (b450 tomahawk max)

Hello tomshardware,

I am curious to hear some fellow enthusaists thoughts on if worth upgrading my ram kits. They're the the trident z neo, cl-16 3600mhz ones. (2 seperate but identical 16gb kits)

Would it be worth it to upgrade to a cl-19 4400mhz kit or faster kit? I'm not even sure if that would work for my system, but I was thinking it might be a fun last send off for the system as there is isnt much else I can do to prolong it's lifespan. (according to https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B450-TOMAHAWK-max/Specification the max ram speed is 4133mhz but I think I have seen people running faster memory then that on this mobo

I have even seen some cl19-4800 mhz kits going for cheap. If I were to throw a faster kit like that into my system, would it even be a noticible bump to fps? Of course it's not exactly the most cost effective upgrade as its mostly just a thought experiment for now--trying to see if there is any way I an squeeze out any more perforamnce for the system.

Thank for reading my first post!

my rig:

b450 tomahawk max
seasonic gx-1000
3090 evga ftw3 edition
5800x3d
trident z neo, cl-16 3600mhz (2 16gb kits)
a few sata ssd's

I highly doubt you will see any sort of noticeable performance bump considering the price.
IMO, the only time you need to upgrade your RAM is if you need more of it for your workload, capacity-wise.
I do not think a lets say "potential" 3% performance increase in games is worth your money.
Having 305 fps and 313 fps literally feels the same, for example.

No, not worth it specially considering 5800x3D processor which is sensitive to RAM speed because of that extra cache, even 3600MHz is pushing it.

It’s not worth getting faster ram. The extra cache masks, to a point, deficiencies in ram speed and going over 4000MT cuts the Fclock frequency in half, reducing performance in some aspects. 4000 is hard to attain maintaining the full Fclock, 3800 or 3900 is more common given hardware limitations.

You would be better with 3600, tight timings and a few pennies left in your pocket.
