Is M1 MacBook still good in 2022 if I am planning to study on IT college in september and do some it work as well as studying ? And will M1 chip be able to handle the IT work for couple of years or is it just something that is going to be good for a while ?

Also one last thing, should I choose Air or Pro and then should I upgrade RAM to 16 GB or SSD to 512 GB ?
Thanks for any help!

What kind of IT work do you have?

You can sell your M1 to buy a PC laptop with better performance.
I did not buy M1 MacBook yet, but I was thinking about it, since I heard only good things about Macs, especially the ones with M1/M2 chips. And that is why I was asking the question if it will be able to handle the IT work for couple of years. I work and I will study with in a lot of different areas in IT such as: graphic design, data analysing, statistics and programming as well as video editing and so on. Multimedia basically. And I am not looking to buy PC, I need laptop for my school and future work, something portable rather than PC ( Which I already have btw)

My decision is between M1 MacBook 16GB RAM, 256 GB SSD or Lenovo PRO X with new alder lake EVO i7 12700H, 1TB SSD, DDR5 16B RAM 6000MHz, Windows 11 PRO, 3K IPS 120 Hz Display. I also have iPhone which would probably make my MacBook experience even better. So what is your suggestion for me please?
