Is motion rate and refresh rate the same thing?

Hello, this is probably a no brainer but I’m looking at TV’s.

Some of the TV’s I’m looking at have labels saying “motion rate 120 for smooth images during fast action scenes”

But on other TV’s I’m seeing ”120hz effective refresh rate”

Is there a difference between the two?

Thank you!

"Motion Rate" and other verbiage like that is marketing speak. I would bet that a TV that says “motion rate 120 for smooth images during fast action scenes” is a 60hz panel that uses some software to mimic faster refresh rate.

What TV's are you looking at? I would suggest digging deeper, because 60hz is very common for TVs.
