Hello everyone,

I have look for an hour on the interwebs and there are conflicting opinions on this topic which made me confused. I have Noctua NH-D15 installed, I also have 4 Noctua NF-A20 5V PWM ( two front intake, two top exaust ), 1 Noctua NF-S12B redux-1200 PWM ( bottom intake ), 1 Noctua NF-P14s redux-1200 PWM ( back exaust ) and my temperatures are attached. As AMD says Max. Operating Temperature (Tjmax) 90°C for 5900X so I am guessing my load temperatures are OK. But I feel like my idle temperatures are way too high. Also Userbenchmark results link is here.

Depends, Idle doesn't mean much as fans slow down, the CPU aggressively changes clock speeds, You want to know what your full load temp is, thats more important than idle temps, anything under 90C is acceptable as 91C it'll throttle to stay under 90C, Of course cooler the better.

Was that a screenshot from ‘idle’ activity? Looks like 6 threads are still doing some work. Might be worth checking task manager processes and/or resource monitor.

Ambient room temp?
By idle I mean after restart. Regular background startup software are running, including Brave Browser, snipping tool, HW Monitor, Task manager, ... etc. Ambient room temp is 20 degrees Celsius as of moment.

That’s a considerable amount of background tasks. Half of your 32GB RAM is being used. IMO seems like enough reason to explain the 10 deg difference between BIOS idle temp and OS lowest temp.

Peak temp of 81C doesn’t seem out of place for an air cooled Ryzen.

depending on the ambient temp of the room, that is a little bit high for true light use.

for instance i have a 5900x and am just surfing the web right now with some music playing. nothing taxing at all. my temp is sitting around 40-45 degrees total package with the ccd's at 30 or so degrees. this is with only like 5% cpu usage.

i have a peerless assassin 120 cooling it. at full load i don't break 80 degrees.

as others have noted though you are using 20% of the cpu and 50% of your ram so those temps may be right in line. i've never really paid any attention since it does not overheat, only stress testing it when i built it and never looked back.

I have a 5900X and it is at 37C right now and my highest temps are about 74C while gaming. My CPU regularly boosts to 4.95 Ghz which is a bit higher than advertised. No OC. I am using a 360mm AIO top mounted in exhaust configuration.
