Is my cpu dead?

I have an asus m5a99fx pro 2.0 and an AMD FX 6300, everything in the computer spins up and seems to be working, but I cant get to post, the cpu led is red.

this is a new system did you check before putting the fx6300 is the board have the bios version that support it ,you should have bios version 1006 try to have another older cpu that fit in the motherboard and check bios .

Ok, I am a pretty big noob, how do I check my bios version?

And also, are you saying that this could be the cause of the cpu led on? Because it should have a version of the bios that supports the processor already.

could be not if it a first version board and not the one that is lately been produce .
