Question Is my current 3970x setup sufficient to upgrade to a 3990x?

Currently have a TR 3970x 32 /64 core that runs around 80-85 under full load. From my understanding this the normal range for these chips. My question is if I swap it out for the 3990x 64/128 core will I also need to upgrade cooling? I read there is less power draw per core but also more cores so perhaps temps will increase? Thanks!

Hey there,

Please list your full PC specs, and include cooler, case, PSU, case fans etc.

Looking at AMD's website, they both have the same default TDP. 280w. So it may not be required.

Your cooler would need to be capable of at least that.
