Is my hard drive dying?

Hello, this noise started coming from my hard drive and I am just wondering if it is the end of this hard drive's life. It is a 2TB WD Caviar Black WD2002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm).

The sound is sort of faint, I can't hear it with my headset on.

The sound gets louder as I stick the microphone closer to the hard drive, the sound it is making stays at the same level.http://vocaroo.com/i/s1Ia03ryqrMX

Doesn't really sound abnormal to me, but if the drive is making noises it didn't make before, it's likely to be the beginning of a platter or parking head failure. You can run Seatools for windows on the drive to test it's health. Run the short drive self test and the long generic.

I see, thank you. It's just it has never made this noise before, so I was a bit worried! :)

It clicked a few times before it started making this noise, but it hasn't clicked since.

Run the test, just to be sure. Clicking is bad and generally means parking head issues.

It passed short generic, running long generic now.

Temperature is 110/230 if that matters.

Sorry for the late reply! It passed long generic. I can't find the Short DST though.

It's there in the options. This is a test generally present on all mass storage drives. If you still can't find it, there is likely a reason as with a problem on the drive that isn't allowing it.:

I see everything but that one.
