Hey, guys, I am just wondering if my laptop can maybe outperform a PS4. Alright, so here are my specs:

12gigs ram
Nvidia 870m 3gigs vram
intel core i7 4710 HQ @2.5GHz
250gigs ssd
570gigs hdd

I appreciate your time.

So basically my CPU would be better for gaming compared to the ps4 but my 870m is not as good?
Sorry I need to know this before buying PC games or PS4 games.

@plaintuts
Explain please.

Despite what power is on paper, the PS4 is a closed ecosystem. Developers know exactly what they're building for, the strengths and weaknesses, and have greater access to the hardware than what most PCs - with their reliance upon drivers and libraries - would allow.

As a laptop, the GPU is less powerful than a desktop equivalent from the same generation. There is also increased susceptibility to thermal throttling, which would further reduce the capability of lifespan of the component.

All that said, what the PC does have is graphic options. If you judge performance by smooth FPS rather than being able to enable more effects and the like, then yes the PC is likely to see an increase. You may need to tweak settings in some titles, but beyond woeful ports you should be able to hit a stable 60 if you're willing to tweak settings in either direction.
