Is my PC specs obsolete for latest released games?

Hi guys! I'd like to ask this question, my laptop has an i7-4510u processor (2.0 up to 3.1 GHz), an NVIDIA GeForce 840M of 2GB graphics card, 16GB DDR3 RAM. I bought this laptop about six months ago, and at the time, I thought it was a great deal, and that it would be able to run any of the latest released games out there. But then, when I go to the website Can You Run It and tested my pc specs with the minimum/recommended ones of many games like GTA V, Far Cry 4, The Witcher III, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, etc, I see that mostly my processor and graphics card are lacking. Even curiouser, when I search YouTube for my processor specs, I see these same games being played by other people. So, what is going on? Is my pc up to par with the current gaming specifications, or is it already obsolete?

don't ever, ever believe what game debate, Can You Run It or any of those websites say. I've got an i5 and a 7950 and according to them I wouldn't even be able to play Advanced Warfare on low but i get 60+ FPS on ultra. yes your laptop is still fine for most games out there (don't know bout witcher 3 though)

Well, that's a nice thing to know. =) I asked this question because it would be so frustrating to buy a game only to find out my pc can't run it.

Hio VicenteMMOS. GTA V, Far Cry 4 and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare would run fine at 1080p on this machine assuming you aren't going nuts with AA and sampling. The Witcher 3 might need some settings lowered as it's still having optimization issues and is constantly being patched for poor performance.

He will be able to play some games on low to med settings however not all. The 840m is similar to intel integrated graphics and slower than the high end Intel solutions such as iris pro. In my opinion the 860m would be the entry point and it's much faster than the 840m.

of course, the 840m isn't good at all but as OP stated he isn't a tech geek and maybe he got that laptop at a good price point? and if his monitor has a native res. of 1366x768 then it's no problem for him to run for example GTA 5 at low-med settings or shadow of mordor at med settings. and if he drops the res. to 720p then he's golden

The configurations/price ratio I got by the time I bought this pc seemed awesome to me, as the laptop itself cost me 500 euros, and then I expanded the RAM to 16 GB with an additional 100 euros.

You got a decent laptop however it's not designed for current AAA games. You should be okay playing older games such as borderlands or Skyrim with low to medium settings however you might have challenges with newer games even @ low settings... I just don't want to get your hopes up.
