Is my VelociRaptor Raid 0 array slow?

The Raid 0 is set up as my "C" drive, with the OS and a few games. The rest of my data goes on a SATAII 250GB HDD. One of those games, battlefield 4, loads multiplayer levels really-really slow. Up to a minute or more depending on the map. I know BF4 is having issues but I want to do what I can on my end. So I am wondering if my drives are performing slower than they should be or if its just time to upgrade my 2009 PC build.

System specs
Windows 7 64bit
AMD Phenom II x2 (Unlocked to x3 and OC'ed to 3.9Ghz)
G.Skill 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 running at stock speeds.
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P Motherboard
BFG GTS 250 512MB GPU
Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality

WD VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB X2

For those wondering I average 50FPS with everything on low in BF4.

Thats looks about right to me.

I tell my boss this too. The thing is the RPM VS Platter Density question. Like we got clients some new hard drives. He though they would be slower because they were 7.2k not 15k. These drives ended up out performing the 15k in every way possible BY A LOT. They were 1TB drives.

You would benifit from an SSD if you want speed. But the speed you are getting is about right. Now do you see those speeds all the time? No. but it is right. You would be better off doing a Raid 0 of some 250gb 7200 RPM's or something along those lines. My Raid 0 of 2 2TB gets like 250 read and write.

Thank you. I am in the process of upgrading my build. I will research the density vs rpm issue. Although I might go SSD instead. They are cheap enough now anyways.
 
Keep in mind that velociraptors are 2.5" drives in a 3.5" case so comparing them to a modern 3.5" drive that has larger and denser platters and you will find that the only advantage the raptor has is access times. The 3.5" drive has larger platters to move the heads about on so naturally has worse times.

Some people wonder why WD seems to be not making these anymore but to me its seems like they are rather useless unless WD wants to go thru all the development to the denser platters only to still be out-gunned by even the cheapest ssd.
