http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138041
same board at newegg..
http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/cpu/socket_AM2.php3#NF500U%20AM2G

but it says socket 940 .. but also says AM2

NF500U AM2G

are they the same sockets.. or ?/

They are not the same sockets, they only have the same pin count. The 940 Pin boards used to be the Opteron Server boards, the 939 pin boards used to be the consumer boards. The easiest way to be sure whether it is AM2 or an Opteron 940 board, is to look at the memory. AM2 uses DDR2 while the older 940 pin boards did use DDR.

edit: I just checked it. It uses DDR2. It has to be a am2 board.
