Is the backlit logo on the back of laptop lids usually lit up by a separate LED, or by the actual screen?

I'm using the Aorus 15P XD laptop.

I know closing my laptop lid will turn the backlit logo light off, so I'm not sure if it's a separate LED or by the screen itself. Do MacBooks have a separate LED?

^ the logo was backlit by the LED's that actually illuminate the panel, so it was spill over illumination.

Screens in laptops are typically edge lit, typically from the bottom only. They use basically a sheet of plastic to diffuse the light "uniformly". So the logo is lit up by cutting out the shape of the case to see the diffuse layer
