Is the GTX 260 the Best Choice for my New Build?

Hello, I will be soon building a new pc and was wondering if the GTX 260 Core 216 is my best choice for a graphics card. My rig consists of:

i7 920 - Overclocked to about 3.0
6GB Corsair Dominator
ASUS P6T Deluxe
Corsair 750 Watt
Windows Vista Permium 64-Bit

I was wondering if the GTX 260 Core 216 could do the following:

Run Call of Duty 4+5 at highest settings smooth
Run Crysis at very high or ultra high and some AA smooth
Run basically many other games at highest settings.

I really would just like to get good frames on Call of Duty and Crysis and was oping that somebody here could tell me if its possible or not.

PS: With my current parts could I SLI two 260's in the future?

Oh i forgot to mention this is all on a 20" monitor with probably about a 1680x1050 resolution.

I dunno about playing Crysis at ultra high, but it will run it smooth and well on high. As for SLI yes you can, however the availablity of the card in the future is another question.

So what kind of FPS should I expect with one card on COD and Crysis? What do you mean about the availability?

Given the current prices already, the GTX 275 has made the entire GTX 200 lineup obsolete. Its only $50 more than the GTX 260 and it beats is pretty good, its $50 cheaper than the GTX 280 and matches it basically, and its $100 cheaper than the GTX 285 and is only a few % points weaker.

In other words im suggesting you get a GTX 275. Or a HD 4890.

^ I play Crysis on Ultra High @ 1280x1024 with 2x9800GTXs.
You can do Ultra High @ 1680x1025 with 2xGTX260s.

Probably Very High with a single GPU at 1280x1024-1680x1025

Also, I will be able to change graphics cards if needed. Im not sure what would be better, the GTX 260, the HD4870, the HD4890 or something else.

You mostly get what you pay for in vga cards. You might want to read this article which shows what you can expect for several games, with different vga configurations.

Just get a GTX 295 and future proof, your next bug upgrade can be a CPU in 2 years or more.

This way the card can run your 20" today, a Hi Def TV, any future monitor up to 2560x1600 and a TV, so bite the bullet and go for it!

So are you saying that it will run everything at top quality except crysis which may need to be turned down a little?

PS: When the new line of cards in June come out IM sure the price of like the GTX 295 will drop a lot. June is when Im building.

why would you even want to get good fps in crysis, it doesnt even proof anything. Farcry 2 Ultra high settings 4x AA i get 50-80 fps with my gtx 260 core 216, and farcry looks just as good if not better that crysis.

Yes it would run callofduty.

I'd want to get good frames so I could play it smoothly. And with those Far Cry 2 frames you posted it looks like this card should be fine.

FarCry 2 runs better than Crysis in general though. I still suggest you get a GTX 275 or a 4890.

i just finished crysis with my 48701gb (had finished it before with my 9600gt), 1440x900 @ veryhigh no AA. i have to admit, there are parts where i wish i have more graphics horsepower, that same feeling i had when i was playing with my 9600gt.

if you have the money to burn, 2 or 3 gtx275/4890 (or gtx295) should give you a very very decent crysis experience. remember, only if you have the money to burn.

Well its too bad I dont have money to burn, lol. I think that I could afford anything in the price range of the GTX 260 -275. I might go for the 275. I would assume the 275 uses more power than the 260? Is it louder?

According to EVGA:
The GTX275 should have a 550w psu, with 40a on the 12v rails.
The gtx260-216 should have 500w with 36a on the 12v rails

The coolers on each are similar, and very good. Noise should not be a problem.
