Is the motherboard safe?

Hi, I want to overclock my old 8600GT to see the max performance I can get out of it before losing stability but before I do I just wanted to know if it can damage the motherboard which I don't want ruined (unlike the videocard).

I see no danger to your MB so long as you dont crank the PCI-E freqency. I make no guarantees tho...

I'm not really sure what the PCI express frequency is but I haven't changed that. I change the core clock, the shader clock, and the memory clock. Does the PCI-e frequency change automatically? Where do I make sure its still at 100mhz

Your motherboard is perfectly safe because increasing the core, shader and memory clocks doesn't increase the pci-e clock as well.

No, you would have to change your PCI-E freq manually. So long as you just mess with the core, shader, and mem clock speeds, there shouldnt be any danger to your MB.
