Hello,

First of all I'm sorry in advance if this was asked before but I could not find anything that really clarifies my question.

I have a Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO (WI-FI) ATX LGA1151 which I need to add a USB 3.0 Expansion Card with 15-Pin SATA Power. Based on the two images below (Layout and PCIe Operation Mode) I would like to know if is safe to install the USB 3.0 Expansion Card in the the PCIe 3.0 x1_1 since I have my VGA already installed in the PCIe 3.0 x16_1 or if I should install in another slot. The reason I want to install it in there it's because I would be able to use an existing SATA Power cable instead of using another one.

Thanks in advance,

Solution
They are not connected. All the PCIe 3.0 x1 slots are connected to the motherboards Z390 chipset. The first PCIe 3.0 x16 slot is directly connected to the CPU.

Socket 1151 for 9th / 8th Gen Intel® Core™, Pentium® Gold and Celeron® processors
2 x PCIe 3.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8 or x8/x4/x4)
Intel® Z390 Chipset
1 x PCIe 3.0 x16 (max at x4 mode)
3 x PCIe 3.0 x1

So what you're saying it's safe to install the USB Expansion Card in the PCIe 3.0 x1_1 and the VGA in the PCIe 3.0 x16_1 correct? The USB will be just on top of the VGA.

Also because of the size of the VGA the only slot available besides the PCIe 3.0 x1_1 will be the PCIe 3.0 x1_3

Thanks :)
