Is the PSU the problem?

Hey all, ok here is what happens... Sometimes even in windows my comp will goto a black screen, monitor shuts off and I have to restart. PSU?

That one could be anything but, this one I think is diff. While playing EQ2 my comp freezes or goes to the same black screen like above, randomly, but most often when I enter heavy populated areas.

Last one I just did a fresh install of windows xp and I turn on the comp and it says overclocking failure, when I have done nothing to overclock it. I think what is happening is my comp over heats and stops responding. Or is it the video card?

I have a cheap $60Can thermaltake 420watt psu is that the prob? I am running:

av8 deluxe MB
corsair value select dual channel 1gb
athlon 3500+ 64
WD raptor 36gb
ati 9800pro 128mb
1 chassis fan
2 cdroms
floppy drive

Your PSU should be more than enough for your setup. Something is obvisuly wrong though. Generally a good way to check to see if it is truely a PSU problem or not, is to unplug unecessary things to reduce the load. Try unplugging the CD-Roms drives, floppy drive, anything not essential to the computer booting up, even removeing a stick of RAM would reduce some load (Of course if you got a flaky stick of RAM, the problem may go away, and you could think it was the PSU, then the problem might return with the new PSU, when you re-install the flaky chip).

Really it could be one of many things, as you know, you can only start eliminating them one at a time. Can your computer succesfully run something like Prime95?
