Question Is there something wrong with my Rtx 3070ti?

I'm having some performance/stuttering issues with a brand new MSI 3070ti. My games felt smoother on my old 2070. The games are showing around 20-30fps increase than my previous card but feels more sluggish and spiking up and down a lot.
I'm on a new windows 11 install and all the latest drivers playing at 1440p@165hz (g-sync).

The rest of my pc specs:
i5-9600k 4.9ghz 1.39v
Asus z-390E motherboard
32gb ddr4 3200mhz
1tb nvme
650w psu

All my temps are pretty good too, 60-70 cpu full load and 55 on the gpu.

Is it maybe my CPU bottlenecking?

Three things to try, disable vsync you are already using g-sync. Make your framerate limit 166 not 162. Change setting in preferred refresh rate to Highest available. See if this smooths things out.

Unfortunately, no change. I tried a few games, Overwatch, AC Valhalla, The Division 2, Shadow of Tomb Raider, Cyberpunk, World of Warcraft.
It's just so jittery when turning the camera or any sort of fast movement or action.

What power setting are you using for windows? What are you using display port or Hdmi? Turn off frame limiter. I just realized in Nvidia control panel 3d settings your threaded optimization is turned off. Definitely turn that to on. Maybe that is the culprit.

Using the maximum power setting and using display port cable. I have turned on threaded optimisation and no change again. Starting to think it’s my CPU or PSU.

I tested my GPU in my girlfriends system and it was perfect, she’s using a 750w psu, i7 11700k and 16gb ddr4

What percentages are you getting with cpu usage when gaming? You can use Msi afterburner and put cpu and gpu usage on screen (os) using that app to check those.

Big swings in fps will often feel worse than a more consistent lower fps. If your cpu is causing fps drops and then the fps bounce back higher it could feel bad. As a test drop the resolution, if your fps stays about the same you are cpu limited which would not be that surprising.

I do think it is the cpu, I’m gonna grab the i7 9700k pretty cheap in a local store and give that a go. Don’t really want to buy newer gen cpu/motherboard just yet.

That link was helpful, when putting in the i7 of my current gen it states they synergise well together, so I’ll try that.
