Question Is this 4070 ti build any good?

Okay so a buddy of mine wants to upgrade my pc because I stream/make content and have been having some issues editing 1080p (50mbps) video on my PC.

He wants to get me a 4070 ti (idc about complaints about the 4070 ti)

So then I told him I cant just have a 4070 ti as I only have a 550w psu and a r7 3800x which would heavily bottleneck the GPU at 1080p.

He then responds that hes going to buy me a new motherboard, cpu, the 4070 ti, and a new psu lol! ... crazy right? I know.

So anyways I got online to do some research and came up with the b650 tomahawk mobo, the 7900x cpu, and a 850w psu.. and obviously the 4070 ti.

Is there anything anyone here can recommend as far as maybe better performance for the money? Or is this setup good to go for 1080p/1440p gaming? (ill be going to 1440p soon I am currently 1080p)

And lastly, how much better will this be than my current build? Ill be keeping my RAM which is only 3200mhz at 32gb (2x16gb). Any thoughts?

You can't use reuse your DDR4 in an AM5 build. You could save yourself a bundle of money by upgrading to a 5700X, upgrade your psu and add that 4070 Ti. btw I'd upgrade that case of yours while your at it.

ugh. Ive been out of the loop for a couple years and dont know much about the new hardware.

So cant reuse ram, got you.

And if I was going to stick to AM4 I would be getting the 5950x .. which is a option if the ram cannot be re-used.

5950x better than the 5700x yea?

I have decided to go with the 5900x for the CPU.

And a "EVGA 850 B5 80+ bronze cert" for the PSU

saves about 200$.

Then later down the road, I can decide weather its worth upgrading the mobo to a x570 board when I have my own money to do it.

Is this a good decision? Or should I try opting for the x570 board now instead of the b550? Or just keep the b550 to get my foot in the door since its not on my dime currently?

The 5950X is a hose job for a gaming build. The 5700X is a great cpu for the price and it runs cool.

The 5950X is a hose job for a gaming build. The 5700X is a great cpu for the price and it runs cool.

Its not just for gaming. Its also for video editing and streaming. Which is the reason for the upgrade to begin with.

Im sticking to am4 and getting the 5900x for 319$ which saves me almost 200$ off the 5950x.. The tomahawk mobo is only a b550 board and not a x570 but the tomahawk b550 has pcie 4 for the main gpu slot so Im not too worried atm. Not sure if the rest of the pcie 3 routes will negatively impact performance, but if I want to I can upgrade later.
