Hey, I have an aging computer, and my friend offered me a trade. He is buying new parts, and he is going to give me an

AMD X2 4200+
Asus AN8-SLI motherboard

For my used
P4 LGA775 1.0 MB Cache 3.0 GHz
Gigabyte 8IPE775-G mb
1.0 mix'n'match cheapo ram
Floppy

Is it a good trade. :?: Thanks.

If you were thinking of buying a new system anyway then go for it. I'll leave it up to you (obviously) to judge just how good a friend you have, but if he's upgrading from an X2 4200 then you have to ask a question about why he'd need an older P4.

Here's what I would have offered you in that trade:

1 model-606 stapler made by Stanley
1/2-used box of 100-count OfficeMax vinyl-coated paper clips
1 bottle of my famous honey dijon cpu coolant

Admittedly, your friend probably gave you a better deal.

I don't think so. I think he's being really kind, and ppl should appreciate that, not talk him down for it.

Exactly! You have a nice friend if he knows what he's giving you. Give him a big (f*cking) hug.

I would trade that rig just for that X2 4200! That's a great trade and I hope your friend is not a big fan of THG and not reading this forum. Do it now, and make your friend a promise not to get it back. :D

My only question is... did you make the trade yet? :D

My opinion would be a very generous trade by your friend.

This has to be some d@mn good joke.

Is your friend mentally handicapped or something? Maybe that would explain everything.

You (in theory) can use a SuperDrive on a PC, as it's just a DVD±RW drive on an IDE interface.

But I'd say not to be lazy, and spend the 20mins it would take to swap them to find out.

yeah. The superdrive works like a charm. Didnt even have to reflash the firmware. Also, one more question. I have an older system, which has a P3 2.80 GHz oc to 3.45 GHz, and 1.0 GB RAM. I have a Visiontek 9550 128 MB AGP 8x vc. Would my card burn if I set it to .1 volt higher (because the BIOS supports it) for more OC? Thx.

Say what?
Is that a typo, cause there were never any P3s at that speed.
The original agp slots use a lot more voltage, so if you do have an old P3 mobo, we would need to know the make and model of the mobo.
If you ment P4 2.8, raising the agp volts by .1 wont hurt.

Card voltages (I think) are more sensitive than CPU, but .1v probably won't adversely affect it. If you're serious about overclocking your card, a non-standard heatsink/fan is a must.
