[SOLVED] Is this a solid setup? And are there any additions or retractions that would need to be made to top this off?

I decided to fact-check this and skim through the 60+ responses in the thread for that article last year...

Out of all those posts, only two of them were from people mentioning having problems with an aftermarket Windows key, and neither actually had their key deactivated after some time. One had bought a key on eBay, and found it to be a volume license, but got refunded when they contacted the seller about it. The other bought a key from a reseller site, and found it to be a used key from the start, but apparently didn't want to bother going through the refund process.

Then there were at least several people mentioning keys from resellers working perfectly fine, in some cases for years. And others mentioning getting Windows through the Insider program or an Education Edition, or simply never activating Windows, and putting up with the limitations.

The only ones mentioning their key becoming deactivated were those with keys from apparently authorized sources, where motherboard changes caused the deactivation.

And around half of the thread was just posts from those who hadn't actually used a key-reseller talking about how bad they were without actually providing any data to back them up. : P

Ok, you believe that if you want. I happen to know that thread was "cleaned up" to remove a good portion of what was there previously. I cannot go into it any further than that because I already suffered repurcussions due to that thread which led me to no longer be part of the moderation team for a while even though my only actual comment there that was directly contrary to the article itself was that it was a bad idea. So, I'm going to leave this alone and I'd ask that you do the same. I don't need any more grief due to the subject matter of THAT particular article.

As far as OTHER indicators, there are plenty.

This isn't just some crap I made up off the top of my head. If you want, I could probably invite a few other moderators into this discussion, who could probably drop a bucket full of links to exactly the sort of thing I'm saying is likely to happen. As a matter of fact, it actually HAPPENED to one of our moderators as well.

Suffice to say, this is not my creation, it's simply a fact.

Well if I can run it for free afterwards anyway, if the key doesnt work then i only lost like
$16
$16 could get you a few games on Steam sales...

Just run it for free for now, if you get sick of the watermark, want more customizing options or are streaming then just buy a legit key (with MS account) through a valid retailer and avoid issues later on.

I've noticed a few games/programs that doesn't even show the watermark.
