This is an ethernet cable right?

Got it plugged into my computer with the other end in a socket in the wall at uni but Windows still claims there's a 'Network cable unplugged'. I get zero reaction from it being plugged in.

The RJ-45 LAN port on your motherboard has two status LEDs. One is a Connection/Speed LED and the other is the Activity LED.

Consult your motherboard manual on its operation.

If the other end of the LAN drop from your wall to the wiring closet isn't connected to a switch or router then you won't see any of the LEDs lit on the RJ-45 LAN port on your motherboard.

Is the proper device driver for the motherboard's LAN controller installed?

Uninstall, reinstalled new ones from my motherboard manufacturers website, etc. to no avail.

Does an active WiFi connection have any effect on that port? I don't see why it would.

My guess is that the socket in the wall literally has no connection running from it anymore?
