i've recently(about 2 weeks ago) sold my old 1600+ CPU to this guy. at the time i am 100% sure that the cpu is running fine when i was sending it to him at the post office.

now just this morning, i've received an email from him saying that the CPU is stuffing up. that the system will reboot by itself even when it is idle. when he uses the computer for 2 days in a row, it would reboot out of no where, if he leave it for a while, then it'll operate for another day and then reboot itself. he also told me that the crash has also corrupted his database on his computer. he have tested the CPU on 2 other system, all with the same effect and that as soon as he replace the CPU, everything works fine. he have also checked the temp, and the bios, the OS, everything that i could think of that could be causing the problem, he have checked. so it is just this CPU which is causing his system to reboot, no error msgs, just reboots, i'm mean, i find this hard to believe. does anyone else experinced anything similar to this?? do you guys think he is telling the truth??

Possible, could have received impact shock damage of esd damaage of some kind I suppose. If it worked for you though I'd say it sounds a bit fishy, also a bit fishy if he says he tried it in multiple systems and tried all those work arounds... on a used cheap cheap chip... Perhaps he got a better deal elsewhere and wants to return it to you for a refund?

he got 2 other system at home, so it is possible for him to test it out. i dont know.. still trying to work out somthing with him.

I would ask him for the brand name and model number of his PSU. Perhaps it's not supported by AMD for that CPU. Sounds exactly like a PSU problem to me.

Unfortunately, you'll never know if something happened during shipping or he messed it up. No way to prove it either way.

It could also be perfectly fine and he's just trying to get his money back.

Last week, my friend gave me a MOBO and processor he had sitting around. The last he used it (6 months ago)everything was fine. I tried to use it and the CPU was dead. Somehow it died just sitting around.

Selling to long-distance strangers (I'm assuming you don't know him) is always dicey.

well... its not the PSU either, he uses this 550w server PSU, and not because of the temperature, because he checks that regularly.
so i figgered that it must be during the shipping, its only overnight shipping interstate anyway.
thanx 4 the feedback guys
