Please list all your specs. I would recommend going for the i5 4690k because it offers the almost the same performance in gaming for a lower price-point. I7 is basically a hyper-threaded i5.

The reason a CPU downgrade was suggested is because the 4690k is the best chip for gaming for the price. Buying that I7 is not worth the money in terms of a performance gain over the 4690k

If anything, buy the 4690k, 8g ram and a better video card with the money saved. Like a r9 390 or a GTX 970

Well, I can tell you most i7 CPU's are for rendering and video editing. My final opinion would be to stick with an i5 4690k, get 8 GB of RAM, and used the saved money to get a good GPU

Throw your money into graphics, if you have many moneys why not try getting into 4k gaming? Those monitors are like $500 at least lol, but I hear they make even diablo 2 look real pretty 😛
